A flag-type tournament on
Saturday will highlight the long
July 4 weekend at Lake
Limerick's nine-hole golf course,
Manager-Pro AI Kneeland
announced.
Each player's handicap will be
added to the 37 strokes that is the
3,073-yard course's official par. As
soon as a player has used the
total, he or she will place a small
flag (provided by the club) in the
ground where the last drive or putt
stopped. Winners will be those
furthest along the course when
they run out of total permitted
strokes.
This weekend's tournament
will be limited to those who have
established Limerick handicaps.

Shelton stowed a big one in the
victory column Tuesday evening
and nabbed the Olympic Connie
Mack league lead by turning an
early-inning skin-prickler into a
late-inning route over South
Kitsap on Loop Field.
The 12-2 final score masks the
drama and tenseness of the game
as Shelton pounded across ten
runs in its last two turns at bat for
victory over the only league rival
which has defeated the Mason
County Junior Legionnaires•
Jim Corey pitched the victory
with a 5-hitter for his fourth
success in league competition, tie
also came up with two of
Shelton's ten hits off aa parade of
four South pitchers, three of
whom were lefthanders. The game
marked the sixth time in the past
seven games Shelton has faced a
southpaw starter. Another
relieved in the other game.
Going into the fifth, Shelton
hugged a tender 2-1 advantage•
South had struck first with a
tainted run in the second gained
on two infield hits, a walks and an
error on a double play ball.
Shelton scored twice in the third.
After two were out, Mike Bac and
Ed Adams drew walks and Jim
Corey beat out an infield tap to
fill the sacks. Then Curt Stracke
stroked a sizzling grounder off the
third baseman's glove and Bill
Landram dittoed off the first
baseman's leather for the runs.
With tension thick enough to
cut, Shelton eased Corey's mound
burden with four runs in the fifth.
Three crossed on Joe Campbell's
wind-blown triple witti the bases
full (on walks to Jim Corey,
Landram and Russ Corey). Kevin
Dorcy singled Campbell across.
South's pitching fell apart in
the sixth as three slabmen issued
five walks, the defense
contributed two throwing errors,
and Bill Landram tripled with two
aboard, Jim Corey and Stracke
tossed in singles, One run checked
in when Dorcy stole home with a
hurdler-leap over the catcher.
Besides Jim Corey, Stracke,
Landram and Campbell each
contributed two hits to Shelton's
attack. The box score:

Pauley's On Hot Streak
Jim Pauley Ford picked up two
more wins last week when they
shut out the McCleary Bears and
squeaked out another over Hood
Canal, 4-3.
On Tuesday, the Fordman beat
McCleary 11-0 in five innings. The
game was shortened because of
darkness. Tim Fredson pitched a
one hitter for the winners. He got
14 strikeouts. Although the
McCleary pitching staff only gave
up four hits, their control was
bad, as they gave up 14 bases on
balls.
On Thursday, Neal White got
the win for Pauley Ford. Mike
