Thirty-five 4-FFers, leaders
and parents received
horsemanship tips and ideas from
Dr. Joe Johnson, Extension
Livestock Specialist, recently.
Four-H. horsemanship
training, sponsored by Mason
County Extension Service,
provides for safety in working
with large animals, as well as
teaching basic skills.
The planning connnittee for
the workshop consisted of 4-H
leaders Marlene Schmidt, Betty
Huguenin, Bernice ,Morrison, Ed
Hellman and. County Agent
Harold Van De Riet.
The workshop was held at the
Mason County fairgrounds.
Vacation Bible ;chool
planned by church
Brother Michael of The Order
of The Holy Cross, West Park,
New York, will conduct a
vacation church school the week
of July ? through 11 at Saint
David's Episcopal Church, 4th
and Cedar Streets, Shelton. The
school will begin each day at 10
a.m. and close each day at 2 p.m.
Children from grades K through
grade 6 are welcome to
participate, as students and older
young people are welcome to
attend as aides to the teaching
staff.
The theme of the school is
"Salt to Season" and is an
exploration of some of the
parables of Jesus using the senses.
There will be crafts, singing,
worship, games, a field trip and
more for the student in the five
days of the school.
The Order of The Holy Cross,
a religious order for men in the
Episcopal Church, has been active
since 1881 and is represented by
monastic foundations throughout
the United States and Liberia.
The order also does teaching work
in other places including the West
Indies, where Brother Michael has
recently been.
All youngsters are welcome to
participate in the school
regardless of religious affiliation.

MEMBERS of the Mason County Rodeo Court made their first appearance
before a local group when they attended a recent Chamber of Commerce
meeting. The girls will be appearing before various local groups to promote
the fair and rodeo in August. Left to right are queen candidates Julie Olli,

Healthmobile which was
submitted to the Journal last
week was incorrect.
The correct schedule is:
July 7, Belfair.
July 15, Hoodsport.
July 21, Grapeview.
July 22, Pioneer.
July 23, Skokomish
Reservation.
July 24, Matlock.
Payments from
PUD told
Mason County PUD 1 paid
$9,364.33 in lieu of taxes in 1974
and POD 3 paid $62,081.42, it
was reported by the State
Department of Revenue this
week.
Of this amount, the county
received $8,989.76 from PUD l
and $59,795.88 from PUD 3 with
the remaining money from each
going to the state.
The tax is imposed on public
utility districts in lieu of taxes on
power generation and distribution
facilities.
PUBLIC NOTICE -- Sanitary
sewer smoke testing. To
determine possible leaks in the
sanitary sewer, some selected
areas in Shelton will be
smoke-tested sometime during
the weeks of July 7, July 14.
Smoke is not harmful, will not
stain or endanger health. No
smoke should enter the premises
unless there exists an open
drainage connection. Report
known open drainage
connections to prevent smoke

in building during testing to the
crew working in the area or call
the City of Shelton Public Works

your area is scheduled for smoke
testing, a notice will be hung on
