Page 22 - Shelton-Mason County Journal - Thursday, July 5, 2007 Legion baseball: Road.weary Timbe return this weeken, Legion baseball's Shelton Tim- bers hit the road for back-to-back tournaments the past two week- ends. , The Highclimbers' summer- league boys won a pair of games in the June 22-24 Steamer Invite in Anacortes, and then this past week they vied in the Bandit Bah in Kennewick. Brand-new grad Tristin Rich- erson struck out 13 and scattered just four hits to lead the Timbers to a 2-1 victory over Enumclaw in their opener in Anacortes. A two- run single by Jacob Dunnington in the bottom of the fifth inning proved the difference-maker in the pitchers' duel. Dean Bearden, Chile Antonio and Richerson also singled for the victors, who im- proved to 12-5 on the year. Game Two in Anacortes saw the Shelton boys break a 3-3 tie with an unanswered run in the top of the seventh inning against Oak Harbor and reward young Dunnington's two-hit pitching by way of a 4-3 victory. Jacob struck out eight and walked just two bat- ters, and he helped his own cause on offense as well by going two for three with a double and three runs batted in. Also hitting safely for Shelton in the victory were Jacob's broth- er, Jordan Dunnington, along with Antonio and Jordan Linnell. Alas, seven errors spelled a big inning for their rivals from Mount Vernon in the third game in Ana- cortes as the Timbers allowed five runs in the fifth en route to a 6-14 setback. Senior-to-be Linnell had a huge offensive performance for naught, going four for four with a pair of home runs (giving him four ding- ers on the season), three runs bat- ted in and a stolen base. Brothers Jacob and Jordan Dunnington also had a pair of hits, including a double by the latter. The Timbers' Anacortes run ended with a 3-9 loss to Everett. Linnell gave up 13 hits and suf- fered his first defeat in four pitch- ing decisions. Tarrin Avey led the attack with a pair of hits in three trips to the Lake Cushman's women waged "least-putts" competition June 27.
