and high school rugby players and programs in the
state tries to invite more elite teams to tourna-
ments.
"Nick and I have talked about doing a tourna-
ment next summer with some amateur teams."
Duchene said. "It would bring a lot of business (to
the community) so I feel it would be good for the
town as a whole."
The seasons for the U19 boys' and girls' teams
and the U16 boys' team are scheduled to start this
weekend. On Saturday, the teams will compete in
the RugbyWA Summer 7s Qualifying Event No. 1
tournament held at Prairie Elementary School in
Yelm.
"The teams will have a tournament every week-
end in July and the first weekend in August." Duch-
ene said. "They're playing for points at the tourna-
merits and whoever has the most points at the end
of the season wins."
He said he expects the girls' team to have a
strong season, adding that they have a good skills
set.
He said he thinks the boys' U16 will play fine
this summer.
"They have a lot of newbies but they played in
the 15s season," Duchene said.

Tournament scheduled for
July 28.
"I also run a glow ball
tournament twice a year,
one was on May 12 and the
next is scheduled for Oct. 6."
Brown said
During glow ball ~ourna-
ments, the special glowing
golf balls are used and play-
ers carry flashlights with
them around the course.
Some private carts also
have lights on them.
The course has a 69.4
rating with a slope of 115 for
men and a 71.5 rating and a
slope of 119 for women.
"Courses used to be rated
by distance and par." Brown
said. "Now. they have teams
from the Washington State
Golfing Association play
courses and rate them
based on landing area, land-
ing size. hazards, the size
and slope of greens and dis-
tance."
Though golf is often con-
sidered to be an expensive
sport. Brown said the eco-
nomic downturn has not
affected the membership
of the club. which has been
about the same for the last
five years.
"The thing that's hurt us
the most is the weather," he
said. "The last three years,
it's been a wet, chilly spring
and continued into the sum-
mer. People don't like to
play in that."
Brown said his favorite
hole on the course is No. 2.
"It's a beautiful looking
hole from the tee and takes
three good shots from the
tee to. make a birdie," he
said. "On hol~ No. 8, you
can see the lake from the tee
boxes."
Brown said a lot of the
fairways from the tees are
beautiful and attributed
this to the work of the new
grounds superintendent Ja-
son gowerton.
"The mowing patterns
he's been using are attrac-
tive," Brown said.
To bring in more busi-
ness, Lake Limerick Golf
Course is offering a summer
special.
"For $25, golfers get
18-holes, a cart and lunch,"
PGA head professional Bob-
by Brown said. "This has
drawn players from Olym-
pia, Tumwater and Gig Har-
bor."
Brown said this special,
along with the condition
of the 50-acre, nine-hole
course and the challenge of
the course are what bring
golfers to Lake Limerick.
