COOLING HER TOOTSIES in the bleachers Saturday, a
young American Legion baseball fan enjoys both the game
and the warm weather.
IN A PICKLE
Saturday at the high
school, a Legion
ballplayer from
Tacoma tries to
anticipate the throw
of Shelton catcher
Kevin Ridout (top)
as he scampers back
to third base. Kevin's
peg to shox,tstop
Benny Ward is in
time, however, and
the visiting
baserunner draws
Benny's tag for the
out (bottom). The
action was in
Tacoma's sixth-in-
ning uprising.
Shelton held on for
a 6-4 victory.

AGENCY
If you're thinking about
trying some mountain lake
fishing for a change of pace,
right about now is your first
good opportunity of the season
- but be sure to take along
insect repellent.
Most high lakes west of the
Cascade Crest and below 4500
feet elevation are now open with
the exception of those waters
lying in the northerly exposed
basins.
The snow line creeps along
the 5000 foot contour in most
of the western Cascades, hanging
heavier on the north slopes and
ridges. This means that most
trails should be fairly easy to
travel.

SHELTON THIRDBAGGER Dave Danielson rips a run-scoring double in
Saturday's American Legion game at the high school.
Legionnaires rip Tacoma's AGK,
move up into fourth-place tie
Shelton's American Legion
baseball team moved into a
fourth-place tie in the league
Saturday by turning back AGK
of Tacoma 6-4 at Highclimber
Field.
Shelton pitcher Jim Tobin
went all the way on the mound,
allowing only one hit through
five scoreless innings before the
visitors erupted for all of their
runs and five hits in the sixth.
Tobin faced only 17 batters
through those first five innings,
dazzling the opposition with a
full arsenal of knuckleballs and
changeups to go with his fastball.
And three times his fine move to
first base picked off AGK
runners.
Shelton, meanwhile, got four
runs in the second inning on a
pair of singles, a hit batter and
four bases on balls. Then, in the
third, Dave Danielson doubled
home a run ann came in to score
recede daffy. Most lakes below
5500 feet are open. A few key
examples are Rainey, near
Washington Pass, and coming
south in Chelan County, Merritt,
Ethel, Eileen, Julius, Chiwakum,
Honour, Colchuck, 8-mile,
Stuart, Ear!e, Mesa 'and the lower
Snow lakes are all open.
In upper Kittitas County, the
snow is melting rapidly now and
some of the lakes open in this
area are: Hyas, Waptus, Deep,
Spade, Alaska, Cottonwood,
Michael and Pete. Farther south
in Yakima County, Big Twin
Sister is open and Little Twin is
still closed.

camping regulations, check

the U,S. Forest Service station in
the district.

The win gave Shelton a 3-3
mark in league play.
Last Thursday the local lads
took a 5-0 setback at the hands
of the league's number-one club
from Olympia - the same team,
essentially, fielded by Capital
High School.
Jim O'Dell started on the
mound and gave up just three
hits and two runs in three full
inmngs. He was relieved by
Ward, who gave up three hits
and three runs - all in Capital's
big sixth inning.
