Holding a garage sale is a pleasant way to do a little business on
your own. You'll raise extra cash and get rid of unwanted items
at the same time. But it takes a bit of planning.
You'll want to decide what to sell and how much to charge for
each item. You'll need price tags so people won't be asking how
much something is all the time.
You'll have to be able to make change for your customers. You
should have lots of one dollar bills and an assortment of coins.
And, of course, you'll want to advertise your sale to attract a
crowd. A Garage Sale ad in the Journal will do just that. And
with your ad, you get a FREE Garage Sale sign to put up in
your yard to help people find you. (You can pick up your free
sign at the Journal office. Sorry, it's too big to mail.) You'll
want to include the time and place of your sale in your ad,
along with some of the kinds of items you'll be selling.
One more thing - be sure to get up early the day of your sale!
When people read about a Garage Sale in the Journal, they shop
early.
