Well, guess what? N ow
the mayors of Seattle, Los
Angeles and others are sug—
gesting the protesters “could”
be responsible for an uptick
in COVID cases. How do you
feel now since you’ve been fol—
lowing all the rules while the
elected officials thumb their
nose at you and vilify our p0—
lice? And how about our sher-
iff who has refused to enforce
wearing masks? Just where
is he supposed to put all the
offenders? Been in Walmart
lately? So just be quiet and
strap on your mask.

Hey Shelton, I am asking
for a friend. Arethe residents
in Shelton who set off the ille-
gal fireworks the same people

A decade or so ago, the
City of Shelton banned the
setting off of fireworks within
the 'city limits. Saturday
night I felt like I was in a war
zone, of course not to mention
the toxic fog of fine particu-
lates, poisonous aerosols and
heavy metals.
As of July 7, it will be re-
quired to wear a mask when
you cannot social distance or
enter into a place of business.

Here is a different situa-

Why are we
surprised at
the violence?
Editor, the Journal
Two “husband-father” men
in some neighborhood start
arguing over some disagree-
ment. They start pummeling
each other in the face. The
families come out and start
hollering for them to stop.
One man, his face a bloody
pulp, falls to the ground un-
conscious and dies from heart
failure. The two families are
are pounding each other’s
face to a bloody pulp. The
loudest cheers are coming
from those seated next to that
square. They are close friends
or family members to these,
possibly husband/father men.
One man falls, with face‘a
bloody pulp, unconscious,
to the floor. The cheering
becomes defining. The man
dies there on the canvas. The
law states the “killer” cannot
‘ be charged. He will parade
around the canvas square
waving his hands and looking
— forward to his huge cash win-
nings, possibly millions. Sport
sections in hundreds of news-
papers will laud it all.
Since the Marques of
Queensbury rules were es~
tablished, over 500 men have
died in the ring with the roar-
ing cheer of thousands.
So why are we surprised ‘
at all the violence now? Who
are we?

Salisbury and
a lslippery
slope?’
Editor, the Journal
Laws are made by legis-
latures and “proclamations”
are made by governors. There
are no laws about masks, one
way or the other, that I am
aware of. What I do know is
that Salisbury put his right
hand in the air and swore to
defend the US. Constitution
against all enemies, foreign
or domestic, as did I many
years ago. There are no “expi-
ration” dates on that pledge
and I for one am very happy
he continues to honor that
oath. He was elected, not ap-
pointed by anyone, so he is
directly responsible to us, the
voters. Too bad education in
this country is now so thin on
US. history and civics.

We should be

missing a crucial aspect of ,
his job. With the (very) lim-
ited resources the sheriff is
forced to work with, he must
utilize what he does have
in the most effective man-
ner that he can. Crime, that
is real crime control, along
with general emergencies
such as accidents and such,
and the abatement of these is
paramount to the safety and
welfare of all the residents
(notice I did not say citizens)
of Mason County, and the
ability to quickly and effec-
tively respond to these situa-
tions take on a higher priority
than that of an otherwise law
abiding resident who is not
following the on again, off
” again protocols put forth by
our governor.
>What (I believe) Sheriff
Salisburyis declaring when
he says what he said is that
he must deal with the real
threats to our county, and
rely on us, the residents, to
take responsibility for our
own health by wearing a
mask. The Sheriffs Office
is not a child care organiza-
tion. We adults should take
responsibility for our own
actions, and not have to be
policed to do simple, common
sense tasks like the wearing
of some sort of protective face
covering. Let the sheriff and
his staff do what we really
need them to do, and not have
to be babysitters as well.
