The 117-year-old dilapidated house and grounds, site of big plans by some local historians, has been neglected for years but is due for some tender loving care. The volunteer grounds crew during the July 1 cleanup includ- ed Jim Leggett and grandson Kanye, Tim and Shawn Anstey, Dennis Grady, Pat Grover, Hen- ry Biernacki, Jessica Engel and daughter Rylee, Mark Peake, Mya Keyzers and Mike Fredson. The group hacked away at the overgrown landscape of Scotch broom, vine maple, ivy and wild rose. The interior cleaning team of Kathie Adams, Kathy Weber, Lindy Fredson, Constance Ibsen and Geri Peake worked with brooms, mops, rags and a gen- erator-powered vacuum cleaner. Jean Moore brought refresh- ments of apple juice and brown- ies to bolster the crew's energy levels. Much cleaning was accom- plished, and while many ex- pressed an enthusiasm for an- other cleaning session, the lack of bathroom facilities tended to limit working time.
