It's out with the old and in with
the new for the Hood Canal School
District, with Monday marking
the beginning of the demolition of
the old Hood Canal School.
Present to witness the event
was ibrmer Hood Canal student
and Shelton High School gradu-
ate Steven Rosenow. His thoughts
on the event? "It's just kinda sad
to see a part of local history go,"
he said, adding that he had many
memories of the school. "I vividly
remember the arson in 1989," he
said, then described how a portion
of the school had to be rebuilt after
it was burned.
He watched the same section
of the school be knocked to the
ground on Monday; this time, it
won't be back.

Members of the Shelton School
Board discussed the status of the
Capital Projects Fund on Tuesday.
Projects currently under way
are improvements to the Shelton
High School Auditorium and the
installation of portables at Bor-

and other projects, as well as the
construction of Olympic Middle
School and Evergreen and the re-
modeling of Bordeaux, are funded

The current balance in the Cap-
ital Projects Fund is just over $1.8
million and the projected balance
after ongoing projects are paid
for is estimated at $172,576. The
school board briefly discussed how
to spend remaining funds, and
talked about improvements to the
kitchen and eating area at Shelton
High School.
Board members decided to wait
until an exact amount of available
funds is known before making any
decisions.

TAKING SOME HARD KNOCKS
The metallic rattling noise known as "knocking" that
in the engine under certain driving conditions is due to an
normal form of combustion. If this problem is not
can lead to engine damage. In some cases, engine knock canl
avoided by moving up to a gasoline with the next hi
rating. Many engines experience an increased ap
as they age, and a jump from 87-octane to 89-octane should
be viewed as too unusual as a vehicle ages. However, a
octane requirement from 87 to 92 is unacceptable and
an abnormal condition. In some cases, a check of the car's
haust gas recirculation system will ioint out the solution.
