Bhady Ladies snatch apple Mason County Women's ,ftball Association leaders ady Ladies demonstrated their 3wess cross-state this month, Liking off with top honors long 16 teams in the annual enatchee Apple Blossom umament. The Ladies beat league foe A d W of Bremerton 11-3 in the !ampionship game and thus eyed to be the pride of Mason ounty's four-team presentation in the tourney. Also there from the league were Sam's Tire, whiCh earned sixth place, and Mary's Exxon, which came in eighth. Shady Ladies had three of its ranks earn all-star berths in the tourney. Cathy Cole got one for all-around, infielder Jeanne Dickinson got another and firstbagger Kim Goldsby got the third. Cole teamed with Aria Greenfield on the mound throughout the tournament, while Dickinson batted .477 for FIRSTBAGGER Kim Goldsby of Shady Ladies takes rCUt at the plate. That big hit came in the sixth inning of the championship game with A and W and keyed an eight-run uprising. A and W, which had battled back through the loser's bracket to take the semifinal game against Shady Ladies 6-5, led 3-2 when Kim's homer cleared the bases. Shady Ladies' tournament action went like this: In game one, against Cashmere Merchants, the champs won 11-6 behind the three.four-four hitting of Jeanee Wright, the two-for-two hitting of Goldsby and the two.for-three performance of Ness Strutz. Game two, against last year's 'champs, Crown Electric, went 11 full innings before ending 2-1 in favor of the Ladies. In the bottom of that inning, Pam Bridges stroked a double and was replaced by pinch-runner Scotti Seljestad, who came home with the winning run after Terri Rutherford bunted her to third and Kay Hartley drove a single to deep fight. Pitcher Cole went all 11 innings for the victors, allowing just three hits against 44 batters. Game three saw Pam Bridges' three-for-four performance lead Shadies to a 7-5 victory over Brigg's of Omak. Game four was the first of Shadies' three encounters with A and W, and in this one the eventual champs prevailed 6-3 despite the batting of Diana Offerdal, veteran Day and Sons. star who, along with Donna Bennett of Hustlers, made a guest appearance for A and W. Offerdal went on to earn an all-star berth as a centerfielder. Weekend teammate Laurie Paseno of A and W was named the tourney's most valuable pitcher. Game five was A and W's 6-5 The winning battery for Shady Ladies in the championship game was Cathy Cole on the mound and Pare Bridges behind the plate. Hitting star for the game, besides Goldsby, was Dickinson, with two sacrifice bunts, a single and a triple. SIo-pitch invite here The second annual Shelton Slowpitch Invitational will be held July 14, 15 and 16 at MCRA and Loop Field. This year the tournament will be a nine-team round robin with five local teams and four out.of-town teams competing. The local teams include Hansen's, SRA, Certified, Manke and Miklethun Electric. Teams coming from out of town are Raintree Tavern (Seattle), Eastside Merchants (Seattle), TWA (Lacey) and Rudy's Appliance (Lacey). Friday the schedule looks as follows: 6:00 - Miklethun vs. Hansen's, MCRA No. l; 6:00 - TWA vs. Rudy's Appliance, MCRA No. 2; 6:00 Certified vs. SRA, Loop. 7:30 - TWA vs. Miklethun, MCRA No. 1; 7:30 - Rudy's Appliance vs. Hansen's, MCRA No. 2; 7:30, Manke vs. Certified, Loop.
