The flexibility of youth... Age-group gymnastics, courtesy of the Shelton Parks and Rec Department, has caught on like gangbusters here this summer, the first time it's been offered. Instructor Bonnie Whitmore says about 45 youngsters have turned out for the Monday and Wednesday sessions, 45 minutes each starting hourly on the hour at 9 a.m. in the Middle School Gym. The classes, for fledgling gymnasts aged four through 13, will culminate in a performance by the advanced class July 24 at I I a.m. in the gynmasium. Carbon monoxide ain't no 'gas' on water With the 1978 boating season underway, the U.S. Coast Guard renewed its warnings of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning on cabin cruisers and houseboats equipped with gasoline engines. The office's chief technician, Captain Jack Coulter, says that result can be deadly, and that the onset of carbon monoxide poisoning often is not noticed until the victim is too groggy to recognize the danger. "Upon the slightest smell of exhaust fumes in a cabin, open the forward ports, windows or doors as wide as possible," Coulter advises. indicator is a small plastic square with a brownish, coated spot in the center which changes color when exposed to air containing carbon monoxide. The indicators usually are good for three to four weeks of exposure to air, Coulter says, and should be replaced when color changes. He urges users to follow manufacturers' instructions. Captain Coulter recommends that boat operators acquaint themselves with the availability of inexpensive, throw-away carbon monoxide indicators.
