Local raceboat takes a third Shelton crackerbox boat racers Bob and Sharon Campbell piloted their craft "Still Bodacious" to a third-place division trophy last weekend in the Amexican Power Boat Association's Western Divisional Championships on Black Lake in Olympia. The husband-and-wife team, racing veterans together eight years now, drove their inboard-powered P-100 to a lap average of better than 80 miles per hour. Just a month ago the two, racing the same craft, survived a high-speed accident when the Still Bodacious suffered an engine lock-up and the suddenly immobilized prop literally Incredibly, only the engine suffered for it. Bob and Sharon escaped without injury, as did the Still Bodacious. The field this weekend numbered more than 140 boats from Washington, Oregon, California, Florida and Canada. All were limiteds. Prior to taking up crackerbox racing, two years ago, the C ampbells participated for several years in the 145-cubic-inch hydro division. About five years ago our legislators in Olympia amended the Constitution so that all properties would be appraised (and assessed) at their true and full market value. This is causing hardship to the extent that retired people are losing their homes to excessive taxation. We ask that you write your state senators and representatives, demanding that they introduce and support legislation that will amend the Constitution to correct this abominable situation. The new amendment is to read "All property is to be assessed and appraised at its true and fair market value until the owner attains the age of 65 years. At that time his primary home is to be appraised at the actual cost that he paid st the time of purchase or building." Voluntary contributions to the undersigned sponsor will enable us to run this ad in every newspaper in our state and thus intensify this campaign.
