Grapeview's Leigh Sinclair
copped the distaff crown last
weekend in the 10k part of the
McCleary's Bear Festival's annual
"Run From The Bears" footraces.
She finished the 6.2-mile affair
in 51 minutes and 58 seconds. The
race's corresponding men's winner
was Olympia's Jason McConnell,
who claimed the chute at the 36:29
mark.
Respective two-mile winners
were Tristina Whipple of Satsop
and Todd Jackson of Oakville,
with times of 15:00 and 12:32.
Lions' cystic fibrosis
golf fund-raiser set
The Lions clubs of Shelton once
again are sponsoring the annual
Cystic Fibrosis Charity Golf
Tournament.
Their seventh yearly go-around
is set for Saturday, August 18, at
Lake Limerick Golf Club.
Entry is $75 per player and
covers green fees, a sack lunch,
a "19th-hole" barbecue and tee
prizes. Awards will be given for
men's and women's long and
straight drives and KPs, plus
there'll be a car up for grabs for
anyone making a hole-in-one.
Sponsorships are available
starting at $100. Service clubs and
businesses can sponsor a team in
the "Bragging Rights Division"
for an additional $100 donation to
cystic fibrosis.
Last year's bragging-rights
winner and traveling trophy
recipient was Windermere/Himlie
Realty.
The tournament format is a
four-person scramble, and space
is limited to the first 64 players
registering.
Net proceeds will benefit the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Motorcycle poker run
will benefit dive team
The Mason County Search
& Rescue Dive Team has an-
nounced it will stage a fund-
raising motorcycle poker run
this weekend.
"Ride & Dive Run 2007," as
it's been dubbed, will be Satur-
day, July 21, starting at 10 a.m.
Registration is from 9 to 11
that morning at Big E's Lounge
at 324 West Railroad Avenue in
Shelton. Entry is $20 per rider
and $5 per additional hand.
Prizes and a spaghetti feed
await at the last stop, say spon-
sors, which include the follow-
ing:
Quick Throttle Magazine,
Twisted Chopper Energy Drink,
Big E's Lounge, Little Creek
Casino, Northwest Harley-Da-
vidson, Paulson's Motor Sports,
Hood Sport'n'Dive, Shelton Safe-

The Mason Conty Search
& Rescue Dive Team is a non-
profit organization comprised of
volunteers dedicated to provid-
ing rescue and recovery services
on Mason County waterways as
well as assisting surrounding
areas.
There are approximately 300
miles of saltwater shoreline
plus more than 200 lakes and
numerous waterfront vacation
areas in Mason County, and the
team is funded solely by dona-
tions and fund-raising efforts.
Each volunteer provides his or
her own equipment and donates
time and resources for missions
and training.
The team is affiliated with the
Mason County Sheriff Search
and Rescue Division. It consists
of certified divers and surface
support tenders. Divers must
complete the basic open-water
certification as well as the re-
quired training set forth by the
sheriffs office for emergency
workers.
