Comeback thriller caps 4-0 run
Home boys win Hoquiam tourn,,,y
Mason County's Cal Ripken 9-
and-under "Sensaria Select" team
pulled off a stunner in Hoquiam
last weekend, coming from behind
in the championship showdown to
win 10-9 and wrap up a four-win
run to the throne.
The Shelton kids were behind
2-7 three innings from the end
in their title-game battle with
Black Hills when they erupted for
six runs in the top of the fourth,
and their resultant one-run lead
wound up sufficient as the rivals
plated a pair of runs apiece in the
final frame.
Coach's son Trevor Gregory was
the pitcher of record in the cham-
pionship clash, and he backed him-
self with a pair of hits, including a
triple. Marshall McCullough also
had a triple and a single for the
victors, while Colin Hale and Jus-
tin DeMattos added a triple and a
double to the winning cause.
Earlier in the tournament the
locals defeated Hoquiam 8-1 and
17-7 and Cowlitz 12-1.
"The kids are amazing and the
parents are unbelievably support-
ive," says player's morn/coach's
wife Kati Gregory. "It is thrilling
to see Craig be appreciated for the
awesome coach that he is."
The champs include Mark Ver-
non, Colin Hale, Cole Barnes, Mar-
shall McCullough, David Ware,
Skyler Ross, Trevor Gregory, Jus-
tin DeMattos; Drew Cruse, Chris-
tian MacEwen and Kyle Cruse.
Coaches are Craig Gregory, Drew
MacEwen, John Cruse and Mike
Hale.
