Tahuya Talk
By LENNIA CATES -- CR5-2245
Certainly has been lousy
salmon fishing out our way of
late. This time last year regulars
had already filled their
punchcards. But this year, few
bait fish have come into the
canal, which probably accounts
for the scarcity of fish. Art Ross
("Mayor of Dewatto") says there
are some salmon being caught up
by the Hamma Hamma River
weighing up to 14 pounds.
On the other hand, searun
cutthroat are' being caught
around here on a regular basis
with evening fishing at high tide
being the most productive. Just
don't forget, you need a
freshwater license to fish for
them because they are not
covered by the salmon punchcard
stamp.
Sandy eand Marguerite
Tveiten are enjoying their new
mobile home in Tahuya. As
former owners of Sandy's
Resort, the couple divides their
time between here, Tacoma and
Palm Springs.
Don Wise of Shorebrook is
hospitalized in Seattle. Doctors
are not sure of his problem as
yet, so surgery may be necessary.
He and wife Dorothy just
completed their new home in
Tahuya late this spring, so he
hopes to be home soon and
enjoying their new abode.
Happy to report that Alice
Fritz is responding favorably in
her second week of treatments in
a Seattle hospital. Alice had
surgery early this spring so it's
encouraging to know she's doing
so well and will be home again
next week.
Incidentally, Charlie Fritz
reported two hunting dogs were
found completely exhausted at
his place. He tied them up so
II
they would be visible from the
road, watered and fed them, so
hopefully their owners found
them.
Last year we had a stray
come to our place. We fed and
sheltered her overnight until the
owners came back looking for
her. She, too, was completely
exhausted and the condition of
her pads indicated she'd been
through a terrible ordeal. You've
heard the expression "I wouldn't
do it to a dog!" Well, some do.
Willis Nolm, skippering out
of Thunderbird Charters at Port
Angeles, reported a 47-pounder
was caught on his boat last
week. Other charters had a
couple, one 41- and a
42-pounder caught in that area.
Gary Gierke awakened to
some strange noises the other
morning to find his dog trying to
get into the house. Not too
awe-inspiring? Well, the poor
thing had been hit by a truck
about a month ago and was just
recuperating when that terrible
thunder and lightning storm hit
here about three weeks ago and,
frightened, he had run off into
the woods.
Gary had given up on ever
finding him again. Very skinny
and hungry, he received lots of
loving and food, in that order.
Birthday wishes to Anne
King, Charlie Fritz, Margaret
Stark and Art Ross this month
so far. Turning 21 is a big thing
in anyone's life and was duly
celebrated by Sue Schatz a
couple weeks ago.
