Garold Greenfield
Dies Friday
Garold M. Greenfield was
dead on arrival at Mason General
Hospital on Friday. He was 73
years old.
He had lived in Shelton for
seven years, and was formerly a
resident of North Dakota. He was
a retired farmer, and a member of
Mason County Senior Citizens. He
was born June 22, 1897 in
Windcm Minn.
He is survived by his wife,
Inez Greenfield, of Shelton: three
daughters, Mrs. Garoldine Van
Berkom, Powers Lake, N. Dak.,
Mrs. 'Dorothy Souther, Libby,
Mont. and Mrs. Geneva Skalicky
of Lima: five sons, Wallace of
Centerville, Utah. Ralph. of
Lignite, N. Dak., Kenneth of
Montesano, and William and
Wilford of Shelton: a brother,
James, of Lignite: two sisters,
Mrs. Mildred Beck, Columbus, N.
Dak. and Mrs. Etta May Johnson,
[:argo, N. Dak.: 36 grandchildren:
and 16 great-grandchildren: and
numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Horace Mounts
officiated at the funeral held
Tuesday in the United Methodist
Church. Burial was in the Elma
cemetary, and donations to the
heart fund were requested in lieu
of flowers.
Supporters of the candidacy
of Spokane Attorney Carl Maxey
for the Democratic nomination
for the U.S. Senate seat of Sen.
Henry M. Jackson met at the
court house Tuesday night to
discuss ways of promoting the
candidacy.
Roger Shell, Maxey's Western
Washington coordinator,
explained the candidate's views
on the Middle East crisis, inflation
and labor problems.
The group formed committees
to assist in the Maxey effort
locally.
The next meeting, to which
all persons interested in
promoting Maxey's candidacy,
will be at the court house Aug. 3.
All publicity committee
members will meet at Kneeland
Park at 7 p.m. Monday.

J. Russell Taylor
Taken By Death
J. Russell Taylor was dead on
arrival at the Mason General
Hospital Tuesday.
He was a 25 year resident of
Monrovia, Calif., and was visiting
in this area. He was 65 years old.
He was born Jan. 16, 1905 in
Cleveland, Ohio, and was a retired
sales representative.
He is survived by his wife,
Edna Taylor, Monrovia; three
daughters, Mrs. Virginia lone
Dodge of Shelton, Mrs. Edna
Marilyn Koop of Eatonville, and
Mrs. Bobbe Evelyn Tolson of
Covina, Calif.: ten grandchildren;
one great-grandchild: and a
brother, Charles A. Taylor,
Monrovia.
A service will be held at 11
a.m. Friday in the Batstone
Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Horace Mounts officating.
Crelnation will follow in Tacoma.
Emily Carpenter
Dies Wednesday
Emily Marie Carpenter, 91
years of age, died Wednesday in
the Fir Lane Terrace Convalescent
home.
She was born in Rocky Bar,
Idaho, on May 19, 1897. She had
lived in Shelton for 24 years.
She is survived by four
daughters. Mrs. Charles Ruffner,
Oregon City, Ore., Mrs. Robert
Cunningham, Gresham, Ore., Mrs.
Bonnie May, Albany Ore., and
Mrs. Walter Jackson of Shelton:
13 grandchildren: 24
great-grandchildren : two brothers,
Earl Smith of Redwood City,
Calif., and Robert Smith of
Portland, Ore.: and a sister, Miss
Laura Smith of Estacaba, Ore.
The body was shipped to the
Carroll Funeral Home in
Gresham, Ore. and burial will take
place in the Gresham cemetery.
Local arrangements were under
the direction of the Batstone
Funeral Home.
Graduates
Connie Marie Ells graduated
from Seattle Pacific College with
a B S degree in Nursing. Her
parents live in Shelton.
Character assassination is at
once easier and surer than
physical assault; and it involves
far less risk for the assassin. It
leaves him free to commit the
same deed over and over again,
and may, indeed, win him the
honors of a hero even in the
country of his victims.

Ernie E. Cullison
Dies In Tacoma
Ernie E. Cullison, 56, died
July 15 in Doctor's Hospital in
Tacoma.
He had been a resident of
Shelton for the past 49 years, and
was self employed as an
excavator.
He was born Dec. 6, 1913 in
Oklahoma. He is survived by his
wife Nina M. Cullison of Shelton;
three sons, Eugene Cullison and
Clarence Cullison of Olympia, and
James Pilon of Seattle ; five sisters,
Mrs. Eva McGuire, Port
Townsend: Mrs. Bonnie Oaks,
Shelton; Mrs. Elsie Rivers, Chico,
Calif.: Mrs. Elva Heinz, N. Dak.:
and Mrs. Nellie Amell, Orville,
Calif.
A service was held at 11 a.m.
Monday in the Batstone Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Mason
Younglund officiating. Burial was
in the Shelton Memorial Park.
Frederick Shelvin
Taken By Death
Frederick L. Shelvin died July
14 in the Fir Lane Terrace
Convalescent Center at the age of
75 years.
He is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Wyone Wright of Santa Rosa,
Calif. A graveside service was held
in the Williamette Cemetery in
Portland on Monday.
