Charles Savage, Shelton was officially invited to attend the dedication and opening of the new $8 million Headquarters Building for the Highway Department in Olympia Monday. It has been five and a half years since Savage introduced House Bill 586 in the 1965 Session of the Legislature and ushered it through the House and Senate to authorize the Highway Department to purchase a site and construct the new building. Savage said it is like planting the seed and coming back five years later to see how the garden grew. House Bill 586 has grown into the most modern office building in the Northwest, Savage reported, and will house about 1,000 personnel. This new building with high speed escalators will facilitate quick access to any part of the four stories including a vast parking area not all finished yet. "The people of the State of Washington can well be proud to be the owners of the unusual new building with its horizontal flow design and I predict a lot of people of Mason County are going to be working there," Savage concluded. Board Meeting The Timberland Regional Library Board of Trustees will meet July 23 at the Olympia Public Library. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Simpson Officials Hear Report By Gil Oswald Gil Oswald, newly-elected president of Simpson Timber Company and a longtime resident of Shelton, made his first quarterly report as chief executive to 125 Simpson staff people from Shelton, McCleary, Camp Grisdale and Camp Govey at the PUD building in Shelton Monday. Oswald described new operating procedures throughout the Simpson organization and expressed hope that "the worst is over" in the weak market situation which has affected the forest products industry for the past year. Oswald shared the report program with Furman L. Moseley, newly-named executive vice president of Simpson. who is responsible for the company's fiber and specialty products• The two speakers were accompanied by several Simpson vice presidents, including Start W.
