• Barry Caskin, former man-
ager of Cwistensen's Shoes, in
Miller's Department Store, will
oon be on his way home from
a tour of duty in Vietnam.
he following was received at
The Journal office by way of
notification.
1. From the midst of them
muddy rice paddies located in
the wilds of South Vietnam come
these announcements :
a. Get those civies out of
mothballs
b. Rev up the two tone staff
car
c. Clear the women off the
streets
d. Stock the bar
2. Very soon the above named
individual will once again be in
De-Moralized, De-Hydrated, De-
Flated, De-Mobilized and slightly
deranged. His efforts will be de-
voted to trying to take his place
once again as a human being,
with freedom and justice for all,
engaging in life, liberty and the
somewhat delayed pursuit of hap-
piness.
3. In making your joyous prep-
arations to welcome him back
to organized, respectable society,
you must make allowances for
the crude environment to which
he has been exposed for the past
12 "Beaucoup" months. He may
be a little Asiatic, "Finnie"
Saigon Tea, and answer "Sony
bout that" to all comments and
may be suffering from advanced
stages of VIET CONGrrIs or too
much BA MUY BA Beer.
4. With all these things in
mind, show no alarm if he pre-
fers to squat instead of sitting
in a chair, insists on taking off
his shoes before entering the
"Hootch" .and has a tendency
to bow when meeting people,
slyly offers to sell cigarettes to
the postman and picks suspicious-
ly at his food as if you were
trying to poison him. Keep cool
when he brings chopsticks to the
table, pours a "Tee-Tee" bit of
gravy on his peaches or mixes
mashed potatoes with his salad.
Be tolerant when he takes his
mattress off the bed and puts it
on the floor to sleep. Don't get
shook if he won't drive down

the block without a trip ticket
and when he says that he lm
going to "Dee-Dee-Mow", it JUXt
means that he is moving on.
Don't be surprised if he answers
all questions with, "This place
Sucks!" or "Number One". Be
tolerant when he tries to buy
everything for less than half the
asking price, accuses the grocer
of being a thief and refumes to
enter an establishment that does
not have steel mesh screens over
the doors and windows.
5. Make no flattering remark
about the exotic Southeast Asia,
avoid mention of the benefits of
overseas duty, seasonal weather
and above all, ask before men-
tioning the food delicacies of the
East such as "Flied Lice"
(Fried Rice). The mere refer-
ence to these particular subjects
may trigger off an awesome dis-
play of violence.
6. In a relatively short period

AGAIN, ALL HE NEEDS IS
again, all he needs is to "SAME
SAME ONE TIME" the land of
the big PX, the all night gen-
erator and the two tone staff
cars. Keep in mind during his
reconditioning peried that Army,
Marines, Air Force and Navy
are ugly words, never to be-
mentioned in his presence. If
he tells any war stories, be
patient, although they seem far
fetched, he is only passing on
what he has been through or
heard. For the first month (until
he is house broken) be especial-
ly watchful when he is in the
company of women, particularly
young and beautiful specimens.
He may tell them to walk several
paces behind him and expect
them to do all the work; but his
intentions, although outdated will
be sincere. The few American
girls he may have seen since
arriving overseas are either
thirteen years old, Red Cross
Girls (yeik!) or owned by of-
ricers, therefore his first reaction
upon meeting an attractive
"Round Eye" may he to stare.
Wives and sweethearts are ad-
vised to take advantage of this
momentary shock and move the
young lady out of MI rea.
7. Keep in mind that beneath
his tanned and rugged exterior
there beats a heart of hold.
Treasure this, for it is the only
thing of value he has left.
8. Keel) all these words of
wisdom in mind, and with kind-
ncss, tolerance and plenty of
home cooking you will in due
'thb rehabilitate this 'l()ilow

'fi F'ar East.
