Western Washington University (WWU)
student Jared Zeniff Ibarra, son of Jose
Luis and Martha Ibarra of Shelten, re-
ceived a $6,800 Oswald Hall and Henny
Lund Scholarship for the 2011-2012 aca-
demic year.
The Oswald Hall and Henny Lund
Scholarship is awarded to students who
demonstrate academic merit and 'show fi-
nancial need.
Ibarra, a sophomore, earned a 3.3 GPA
at Shelton High School and is majoring in
Psychology. His activities include being a
campus tour guide for the Office of Admis-
sions at WWU. Ibarra expects to graduate
in 2014 and plans to be a school counselor.

Olympic College will hold
two new Student Group Ad-
vising Sessions from 1:30 to
3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug.
1 and Aug. 15. The sessions
will teach students how to
get started at OC, which
includes how to plan a class
schedule; how to use the
online scheduling tools and
how to register; how to iden-
tify a faculty advisor and
when advising is required
and how to locate campus
resources.
Students planning to
register for a math or Eng-
lish class must first take an
Accuplacer Placement Test.
The results from the place-
ment test will help your ad-
visor determine your class
schedule. The test costs $20
and is not timed. August
testing dates are at 9:30
a.m. Monday, Aug. 15 and
Aug. 22.
Olympic College Shelten
will offer two practical nurs-
ing information sessions.
Attending an information
session is mandatory if you
are applying for admission
to the Practical Nursing
Program at Olympic Col-
lege. The sessions are from
3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tues-
day, Aug. 2 or from 8:30 to
9:30 a.m. on Wednesday,
Aug. 24. If you plan to at-
tend a session, e-mail nurs-
ing@olympic.edu as space is
limited.
If you are currently col-
lecting unemployment
insurance, or have col-
lected benefits in the last
24 months, are a displaced
homemaker or were self-
employed in a declining
field, you may be eligible
for worker retraining fund-
ing financial assistance for
one quarter of tuition and
books. A Worker Retraining
Information Session will be
held at 1:30 p.m. on Tues-
day, Aug. 16. Call 432-5400
to sign up for this session.

stop by the campus student
services office to make an
appointment. The Olympic
College Shelton campus
is located at 937 W Alpine
Way. Summer hours of oper-
ation are Monday - Thurs-
day, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The
campus is closed on Fridays
through September 2.
Watercolor, drawing classes offered
If you've yearned to learn the art of
drawing and painting, this is your opportu-
nity to be taught by accomplished painter
Robert Chamberlin. He is offering a spe-
cial eight-week class, August 8 through
October 3 specifically designed for those
50 and older who are new to drawing and
watercolor painting. Robert Chamberlin
will take you step by step through the pro-
cess. The eight-week class is from 1 p.m. to
3 p.m. on Mondays, excluding Labor Day
and is held at the Mason County Senior
Activities Center, 826 W. Railroad Avenue,
in downtown Shelton. This class is only for
beginners and participants must be 50 or
older. Chamberlin's classes sell out quick-
ly, so early registration is encouraged. The
cost is $50 for MCSAA members and $57.50
for non-members which includes MCSAA
membership for the remainder of 2011. Ma-
terials for the class are not included in the
price. A deposit of $5 is required to hold a
space. For registration and other informa-
tion call the Center at 426-7374.
