Prose, poetry readings
slated August 19, 26
Two free public readings are
scheduled for August by the
Olympic Poets and Writers Work-
shop, a local writers' circle.
Both will be held on Thursday
evenings in Saint David's Hall at
218 North Third Street down-
town.
OPWW invites listeners to
come early and add a reading of
Southwest Washington natural
history to their agenda on the fi-
nal night of Music in the Park on
August 19. Folks enjoyed a
"picnic with poetry" event early in
the season, planners noted. This
time it's "picnic with prose" with
reader James LeMonds, whose
book South of Seattle chronicles
coming of age in Castle Rock.
LEMONDS, WHO lives in
Growlers Gulch near Castle Rock,
has a new book in the works. It
was accepted this spring by
Mountain Press Publishing Com-
pany. He'll read some selections
from that and some new work as
well. Listeners are welcome to
bring a picnic dinner to enjoy at
the reading or the Slainte concert.
The following week, OPWW
will return to its 7 p.m. reading
venue and host Long Beach Pen-
insula poet and musician K.C.
Killingsworth. Postmaster for the
historic community of Oysterville,
Killingsworth writes poems and
songs that reflect his relationship
with people and place.
His most recent book, A Hand-
book for Water, was printed in
1996 and is prefaced by the late
writer Willard Espy. There will
be an open-podium opportunity
for those attending to share short
samples of their work.
OPWW WILL serve beverages
and light refreshments at the
readings. The writers' group also
hosts reading and critique ses-
sions for participating writers on
Monday evenings through August
16 at 7 p.m. in Saint David's Hall,
returning to Thursday evenings
beginning September 2. All inter-
