Frequently painters boast of a
number of other talents in
addition to theii" ability to create
on canvas. Artistic ability within
an individual usually expresses
itself in numerous ways. A good
artist claims, among other things,
the precision of a mathematician.
This clarity gives the painter an
advantage in all creative
endeavors. Karen Kytta, a 12-
year-old Shelton student,
possesses all of these necessary
qualities• Besides earning straight
"A's" in math she plays the piano
and clarinet. Karen began
directing her abundance of
expressiveness towards painting
about two years ago.
Recently her talents met with
high recognition. She competed
with and surpassed professional
artisits in the McCleary Bear
Festival Art Show. Karen won

paintings and tied for second
place in the popular w)te. Iter
other showings include lhe
Orthopedic (;uild May Day
Bazaar:. In the future she plans to
enter the Mason County Fair.
Moll Chevrolet will display her
pictures during the following
week.
Karen started out painting with
water color but now limits herself
to oil. She prefers the brush
technique, having tried both that
and palette knife. Karen, as many
of Mason County's Other young
art isis, enjoys depicting nature.
Iter preference for the
outdoors finds further satisfaction
through her passion for
swimming• Her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William Kytta, maintain a
pool at their Angleside home
partially for this reason.
Karen will enter the 7th grade
in Shelton Junior High School
this fall.
