Roy W. Anderson Donald S. Clary
At Coast Guard School Has Combat Duty
Seaman Apprentice Roy W.
Anderson Jr., USCG, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy W. Anderson Sr. of
608 S. Ninth, Shelton, is
attending the Electronics
Technician School at the United
States Coast Guard Training
(!enter, Governors Island, N. Y.
The 18-week course provides a
sound background in the
maintenance and repair of all
,shipboard and shore-station
electronic equipment and other
types of communication,
detection and ranging equipment
employing electronic circuits.
Whenever required, the U.S.
Army Engineers in Vietnam can
fight very effectively in combat
missions as infantrymen.
Army PFC Donald R. Clary,
22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Clary, Shelton, has been doing
just that in recent weeks as his
base camp near Dak To has come
under some heavy enemy attacks.
He is assigned to Company D,
299th Engineer Battalion, 937th
Engineer Group, as a combat
engineer.
The battalion has had the
responsibility of defending the big
base camp
Paul McQuilkin
Now In Marines
Paul W. McQuilkin, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce A. McQuilkin of
711 Turner street, Shelton, has
enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Paul is now undergoing recruit
training at San Diego, California,
where he will receive instructions
in such subjects as physical
fitness, first aid, drill, Marine
Corps history, all of the Marine
Corps small arms and how to use
them.
During his eight weeks of
recruit training two weeks will be
spent on the rifle range at Camp
Pendleton California, where he
will master the M-14 rifle.

Now Serving At
Bien Hoa Base
U.S. Air Force Sergeant James
H. Yates, son of Oscard D. Yates
of Hoodsport, is on duty at Bien
Hoa Air Base, Vietnam.
tie is a food service specialist
with Pacific Air Forces and
previously served at Whiteman
AFB, Missouri. He is a graduate of
Pacific Prevocational High School.
Sergeant Yates if married to
the former Pearl T. Hall, from
Scotland. His mother, Mrs.
Constance L. Yates, lives in
Seattle.

pitching 57 innings• The 17
earned runs he allowed left his
ERA at 2.68 in the I1 games in
whcih he pitched. He struck out
53 and walked 25 while Hagan
had a 68-21 ratio of whiffs and
passes while appearing in nine
games.
Over the full season, Shelton
won 10 and lost 1 I games with a
7-5 record in the Olympic Mack
league. Against non-league
opponents Shelton won three and
lost six.
Of the 15 players who finished
the season in active roles, 11 will
be eligible again next year
age-wise. The departures include
Landram, Adams, Campbell, and
Joe Waldrip, leaving a highly
promising nucleus for 1970.
