Dotettes and S.I.T.E., the top
two women's softball teams in the
Shelton district, compete in the
state tournament starting this
Friday night.
S.I.T.E. opens play at
Roosevelt Field in Bremerton at 5
p.m. and Dotettes plays at 6:30
p.m.
The women's league ended
Saturday with Dotettes holding a
one-game lead over S.I.T.E. for
the pennant. Individual trophies
were given to members of the first
and second place teams. Dotettes
recently won the district
tournament; S.I.T.E. was second.
Mama's took third in the
league; Day and Sons was fourth.
Mama's won the sportsmanship
trophy; S.I.T.E. won the
inspirational award; and Gypos,
Arnold and Smith and Merchants
won the participation trophy.

Mason County's division II
Little League all-star girls softball
team will host the state softball
tournament for those 13-15 years
old this weekend at Callanan
Park.
It's the first tournament of its
kind ~r held and only four
teams from around the stat'e will
compete. Mason County will play
at I 1 a.m. Friday. Another game
will be played between Lewis
River and lssaquah at 1:30 p.m.
Friday. The teams will compete
the next day in games yet to be
matched at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
and the championship game is
scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The boys senior division team
was put out of the state
tournament by Lewis River, 5-2.
It was the second loss for the
locals at the state tourney and
in Shelton
they placed third.
The Mason County Major
League all-stars were dumped in
the district tournament 18-1 and
5-2 after they won their first
game. They Placed fourth in

John Jensen
John Jensen, former Shelton
resident, died July 19 in Tacoma.
He served as agent for Puget
Sound Freight Lines in Shelton
from .1930 until 1939,
maintaining an office on the old
city dock. After acting as agent in
Bellingham he moved to Tacoma
as retirement agent.
Mr. Jensen enhsted in the U.S.
Navy from Shelton during World
War II. A military funeral was
held for him in Mountain View
Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Lee
Ellen Jensen of Tacoma; a son,
John E. of Seattle; two brothers,
the Reverend Sam Jensen of West
Virginia and the Reverend Peter
Jensen of Michigan; two sisters,
Mrs. Josephine Thomas, tormerly
of Grapeview, and Mrs. May
Wittenn of Michigan; a half-sister
in California; and a
granddaughter, Judi Ann Jensen
of Tacoma.
Harold B. Chase
Harold B. Chase, born July
30, 1895 in Littlerock,
Washington, died in Shelton on
July 23 at the age of 79 years.
He had resided in Shelton
since 1921 and for many years
was employed in the grocery
business. He worked for
McDonald and Company, P. H.
Sharpe, and later in M and S Food
Store with Harold Sutherland. He
was a longtime member of the
Shelton First Baptist Church.
Mr. Chase entered military
service in Seattle on June 2, 1917.
After four and a h',df months at
USNT in San Francisco,
California he was discharged
because of a disability.
On June 5, 1918 he reentered
the service and was transferred to
Camp Fremont, California; to
Camp Mills N.L.: to Camp Lee,
Virginia; and to Camp Lewis,
Washington. He was mustered out
June 9, 1919.
Harold Chase was a member
of Madrona Barracks No. 1462
Veterans of World War I and for
eight years served as their
chaplain.
He was married on June 26,
1922 to Rachel I. Hepner, who
survives him. Other survivors
include a son, Alfred A. Chase of
Auburn, Washington; a daughter,
Mrs. Irene M. Williams of Auburn;
eight grandchildren; and two
great -grandchildren.
The Reverend Ed Hepner
officiated at a funeral held at 11
a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist
Church. Burial followed with
members of Madrona Barracks
No. 1462 Veterans of World War I
officiating at the graveside in
Shelton Memorial Park.
Kent H. Benson
Kent H. Benson, 78, died
Saturday in Shelton. He was born
November 6,'1896 in
Connecticut.
A retired surveyor, Mr.
Benson had been a resident of the
Shelton and Agate areas since
1949.
He is survived by two
brothers, Howard L. Benson of
Miami, Florida and Roland G.
Benson of Gaylordsville,
Connecticut.
As Mr. Benson had requested,
no funeral will be held.
