WATCH FOR SIGNS
ST. RT. 1, BOX 269 -- SOUTH SHORE
Golf competitions held at takeLand Village
LakeLand Village women
played " blind partners" in their
regular competition July 24 with
Betty Mudgett taking first place
in the first* division for the 18
holers and Carrie Harstad first in
the second division. Mary Lou
Scott came in second for the first
division and Dulcie Schillinger for
the second division. Winnie Tower
was third for the first division and
Eleanor Knapp for the second
division. Kay Sinkunas was
winner for the nine-holers.
In spite of intense heat on
July 26 most of the men and
women members turned out for
the twilight golf and potluck
dinner. After nine holes of
"Scotchball," with two hidden
holes being scratched, the crowd
ate their dinner outside, in front
of the clubhouse. Louise Okonek
and Frank Tower took low gross
honors. Ed Okonek and Dot
Keenan had low net; Ross Bryan
and Alice Aiken were second and
Harry Keenan and Maxine
Johnson took third place.
The following day, Sunday,
was another hot one when the
men's club hosted the Lake
Limerick club at a "home and
home." They played 18 holes,
followed by a hearty lunch
provided by the wives of the
LakeLand Village men's club.
Two men from the local club
took top honors for the day's
competition. Lance Thurston had
low gross for the field and Ed
Okonek low net. Donald LePere
had low net for LakeLand Village
with Russ Schillinger placing
second. Walt Albedyll had low net
for Lake Limerick and Earl
Mackin second. Dick Porter had
the longest drive on No. 9 for the
host club and Hal McGown for
the visitors. Russ Dahl was closest
to the pin on No. 5 and Ran
Burke was second. Both men are
LakeLand Village members.
LOGGER INJURED
Wayne Morgan of Buckley,
living temporarily on North
Shore, received chest injuries in
an accident about two miles off
Bear Creek Road at 11:10 a.m.
July 24. A report on file at the
Sheriff's office states that Morgan
was driving a skidder on a back
road when it turned over on a hill.
Although it landed on its roll
bars, a stump was between the
bars and crushed the driver's
chest. Radio equipment on a
logging vehicle in the area was
used to relay a message to the
Belfair Fire Department which
sent its ambulance to the scene
and transported the victim to
Harrison Memorial Hospital.
DINGHY LOST
A white fiberglass dinghy was
reported lost from South Shore
July 22.

Joe and Margaret Haggstrom
have been busy entertaining
company from far and near.
Recently they had company from
Norway, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson
and Miss Jerstad, who spent a few
days with the Haggstroms at their
Mason Lake home. Last weekend,
a yearly event was enjoyed when
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Christy and
their two daughters with their
families spent a wonderful time
with Joe and Margaret.
Willard and Gladys Lloyd had
the pleasure of visiting with Fern
Proctor, who drove up here from
Forest Grove, Oregon. Fern and
Gladys have been friends for
many years.
Bob and Marion Denney of
Seattle are spending their vacation
at their summer home on Mason
Lake. Marion was a guest at the
Ladies' Auxiliary meeting last
week.
The Darrel Adams family of
Yakima spent last week at their
summer home on Mason Lake.
They certainly picked a good
week for swimmi'ng and
sunbathing.
I've heard of several new
families who have moved to our
area and have tried to get phone
numbers, but so far I have not
been able to make contact. So, if
you are a new family out here,
won't you please give me a call so
I can write a story about you?
COR RECTION
In a news story in last week's
issue the address of the
newly-opened DeLong's South
Shore Realty was incorrect. It is
Star Route 1, Box 270, BelfaSt.
HIGHWAY PROJECTS
Two county road projects in
the north end of Mason County
are planned for this year with
calls for bids recently submitted.
One calls for constructing
asphaltic concrete pavement on
2.1 miles of the Old Belfair
Highway and the other for similar
work on 0.4 miles of the
Mason-Prickett Lake Road.
