They met while attending school at Olympic College and remained friends for several months before they realized that their friend- ship was leading them to marriage. Courtney shared that they enjoyed spending time swimming at Lake Cush- man and longboarding in Seattle and after over a year of spontaneous outings and adventures are getting mar- ried. Poetry Contest open to Shelton area poets A $1,000 grand prize is being offered to the last poet standing in a free contest sponsored by the Celestial Arts Society. There are 50 prizes in all totaling $5,000. Contest director Dr. James Cameron will judge poems of 21 lines or fewer on any subject and in any style. "I encourage poets to send in the peem they're most proud of," he said. "I know this contest will produce ex- citing discoveries." Entries must be received by Aug. 31 and may be sub- mitted by mail to Free Po- etry Contest, 221 N. Central Ave. No. 228, Medford, OR 97501 or entered online at www.freecontest.com. Shelton library to temporarily close The Shelton Timberland Library will close for new carpet installation beginning Monday, Aug. 15. The li- brary is expected to reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. "When the project is complete, the library will be even more warm and welcoming than it currently is. The carpet is really worn out and tired, so this will be a great boost for the building," said Librarian Patty Ayala Ross, the Shelton Timberland Library Manager. In the interim, book drops will be open for people to return library materials as usual. No other services will be available during the closure. Library books and other library materials that patrons have placed on hold will be unavailable for pickup during the clo- sure, so Shelton librarians encourage people to pick up their holds before 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. New holds placed for pickup at the S.helton Tim- berland Library will not be available until after Sept. 5. Library staff encourage patrons to place new holds for time-sensitive materials to be picked up at anoth er Timberland library. While the meeting room will not be available for events, the library's annual Summer Concert Series will be held as planned on Tuesday evenings in Au- gust in the outdoor amphitheater. The library will undergo a number of Improve ments. The old carpet will be torn out and new carpet will be installed in the main public areas. Commer- trial vinyl with the appearance of wood will replace the current floor coverings in the meeting room, kitchen area, bathrooms and the staffbreak room and offices.
