Voter turnout on the first bal- lot count was 38.37%, but that number will rise significantly: the county elections office received about 8,000 ballots Monday and Tuesday, said Fina Ormond, the county’s elections manager. Republican incum— bent Kevin Shutty faced no de- clared opponent and received 3,272 votes on the first count for 91.35%; 310 voters wrote in other names. Mason County Commissioner Randy Neatherlin, who identi- fies as an Independent, received 3,134 votes for 54.04% on the initial count, and Republican challenger Ted Jackson received 2,600 votes for 44.84%, setting up a contest between the two on the Nov. 3 ballot.
