After months of pending inspec-
tions, Allyn Pizza will open Aug. 12.
“Judging by all the calls I’ve been
getting from people trying to order
pizza I think we’re going to be pretty
busy,” Allyn Pizza owner Ron Butler
said. .
Butler said he receives 10 to 12
’ calls a day, after a June 8 post on
the restaurant’s Facebook announced
that they planned to open soon.
Though Butler is a plumber, and
his wife, Juvy Smith, is a hairdresser,
without any professional culinary ex-
perience, Butler said they had plenty
of time to experiment with recipes
based on YouTube videos and his col-
le'agues’ menus at Union Camp Piz-
MABY’S MEMOIBS
za and Fairgrounds Pizza in Kitsap
County.
The pizzeria’s crew — primarily
North Mason High School students
and recent graduates — got a boot-
camp-esque week of training prior to
opening day.
“I got them in here working with
the cheap stuff on their first day of
training,” Butler said. “I had bought
a bunch of ingredients from Costco for
them to learn with.”
By day two, the local teens had ad-
vanced to the fresh ingredients the
pizzeria will serve its customers.
Staff members served up sub sand—
wiches, calzones, pizza, salads and
wings for Butler and Smith to taste
during trainingweek.
When employee Jill Maiuri asked
what to put on her garlic bread dough,

Butler replied, “Well, how do you like
your garlic bread?”
Maiuri proceeded to paint the
freshly cut dough with oil, garlic and
Herbs.
Allyn Pizza will be Allyn’s only piz-
zeria and many locals have expressed
their enthusiasm in anticipation of its
opening. '
“So excited for this! We have been
waiting since we saw the sign,” Belfair
Elementary teacher Monica Roy com—
mented on Facebook.
Butler said location was a big factor
in his decision to open a pizzeria.
“I chose Allyn because it didn’t
have nothing like 'it down there,” But-
ler said in a June 25 interview with
the. Herald. “1 know people in Allyn
don’t like driving to Belfair (for pizza),
once youget off the road it might take
you 20 minutes one way.”
He and Smith have been waiting to
open since spring, when they started
leasing the location near the US. Post
Office and 2 Margaritas. They finally
received clearance to open on July 31.
“I had three of (my employees)
quit,” Butler said. “They got tired of
waiting and I don’t blame ’em.”
Butler gave preference to teenag-
ers in the hiring process as a means
of helping the community’s youtha get
their foot in the door.
“I kinda like the idea that it gives
teens the opportunity to start working
and keeps them off the streets and out
of trouble,” Butler said.
Allyn Pizza will be open from 11
a.m. to 9 pm. seven days a week. The
full menu is available at @AllynPizza'
on Facebook.

We got out the car and
saw the parks and more
of the town. In the eve we
drove to Bellingham. Saw
Floyd Green’s wife and then
went out to Henry and Lauriece’s. We
were there but a short time when Lou-
ie and Grace came in. So we had quite
a good visit. We went'over to Louie’s
to the night.

We left Louie’s at 9:30 and headed
towards Seattle. We ate and then got -
me a pattern for my suit. Home at 6
o’clock and ate dinner. The Michaels
came down in their new car and want-
ed to go to Perl’s so away we went and
had a fine time. Their new car runs
fine and is a Buick. - '

Up early and ate. At 8 we left for
Sekiu. We ate a bit at Sequim and
arrived at Sekiu at 12:30. Sam had
- caught a 37-pound salmon already. A
beauty! We went out in the evening
to fish. It was quite windy out. We
had no strikes so we came in. Very
warm out and a grand sunset. To bed
late.
