Ruby F. Rayson
Ruby Florence Rayson died of
natural causes on Sunday, August
5, at Mason General Hospital. She
was 86 and had lived in Shelton 30
years.
She was born
on January 12,
1921 in Los An-
geles, Caliibrnia,
'to Reuben and
Matilda (Petrie)
Strike.
She married
Dave Rayson on
July 22, 1977 in
Chatsworth, Illi-
nois. Previously,
she was married
to Louis Haber-
korn. He preced- Ruby F.
ed her in death
on September 18, Rayson
1973.
Mrs. Rayson was a homemaker
and enjoyed traveling in their recre-
ational vehicle. She was a member
of Saint Edward's Catholic Church,
where she enjoyed working with a
church group.
She was also preceded in death
by sister Ruth Uken.
Surviving are husband Dave Ray-
son of Shelton; son Mark Haberkorn
and wife Ramona of Lostant, Illinois;
daughters Yulanee McKnight and
Cheryl Craig and husband Rob, all
of San Antonio, Texas, and Jeanette
Zimmerman and husband Mike of
Forrest, Illinois; sister Viola Adams
of Lakewood; 12 grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins."
A memorial mass will be held at
11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22,
at Saint Edward's Catholic Church
in Shelton. Father Ran Belisle will
officiate.

Longtime Hoodsport resident Ev-
erett Ace Cotten Jr. died on Friday,
August 3, after a battle with cancer.
He was 75.
He was bern
on July 18, 1932
in Saint Louis,
Missouri, to Ev-
erett Ace Cotten
Sr. and Marga-
'rett Williamson.
He served in
the Navy with
his two brothers
during the Ko-
rean War.
Mr. Cotten
enjoyed hunting Everett
and fishing with Cotten
his friends and
son.
fie was a member of the Veter-
ans of Foreign Wars and served as
senior vice commander. He was also
a volunteer firefighter with Fire
District 18 at Lake Cushman.
Surviving are children Mark
Cotten of Glendale, Arizona, and
Tina Zielinski of Hoodsport; grand-
children Justin Churchill, Carissa
Pierce, Cyle Zielinski and Jason, Jeff,
Jessie, Joey and Jake Cotten; eight
great-grandchildren; brother Paul
Cotten and sister Shirley Batton.
A celebration of Mr. Cotten's life
will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday,
August 11, at 300 North Dow Creek
Drive, Hoodsport.

Beverly Irene (Keenan) White,
who has relatives in Shelton, died
of heart failure and diabetes on Sat-
urday, August 4, at Liberty Country
Care in Centralia. She was 72 and
was a lifetime
resident of the
Onalaska-Moss-
yrock areas.
She was born
on September 3,
1934 in Ethel,
Lewis County,
to Harold M. and
Helen E. (Carv-
er) Keenan.
She graduat-
ed from Onalas-
ka High School
in 1954 and at- Beverly I.
tended Laverne White
College in South-
ern California for one and a half
years.
She married James J. "Jim"
White on October 16, 1956 in
Longview. He preceded her in death
on March 10, 1962.
She worked as a secretary at
Longview Fiber until her marriage,
then was a housewife and mother,
later babysitting for several area
families.
She was an avid collector and her
interests included craling, sewing,
quilting, knitting and crocheting.
She collected stamps since the age
of 4. She also enjoyed spending time
with young children.
She was a lifelong member of the
Salkum Community Church of The
Brethren and was honored for more
than 32 years of work in the church
nursery when her health forced her
to stop.
She was also preceded in death by
her parents, brother Wayne Keenan
and grandson Adam White.
Surviving are daughters Mar-
cia Green and husband Rodney of
Chehalis and Kathryn Lester and
husband Gerald of Shelton; sons
Mark White and wife Jackie of Che-
halts and Gary White of Centralia;
granddaughters Karen Paterson
and husband Perry of Littlerock
and Julia Courtney and husband
Drew of Chehalis.
Also surviving are grandsons
Kevin Lester of Washington, Mi-
chael White and his wife Amber of
Chehalis and Daniel Lester and his
wife Mandi of Shelton; great-grand-

Mrs. Blake, who worked as sec-
retary of the local county exten-
sion office for two decades, died on
Saturday, July 28. She was 87 and
a Shelton resident.

Helen L. Sheets
Helen Lorraine (Johnson)
Sheets, a retired seamstress and
drapery maker, died of pancreatic
cancer on April 26 in Tacoma. She
was 82 and had lived in Shelton
for 25 years.
She was born on October 5,
1924 in Seattle to Alfred and Anna
(Schubert) Johnson. She gradu-
ated from Ballard High School in
1941.
She married Allen Sheets in
November 1996 in Geerhart, Or-
egon. Previously, she was mar-
ried to Herbert Henning from
1963 to 1993. He preceded her in
death. She was married to George
Meininger from 1942 to 1962.
That marriage ended in divorce.
Mrs. Sheets worked as a seam-
stress, was manager of a drapery
business and owned a drapery
business in Seattle.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing,
boating, fishing and recreational
vehicle camping. She volunteered
at the Mason County Senior Ac-
tivities Association and was a
member of the Knitwits Women's
Club and Lake Limerick Country
Club.
She was preceded in death by
brothers Chester, Harold and
Lawrence Johnson and sisters
Elaine Burrows and Anne Etchi-
son.
Surviving are husband Allen
Sheets of Shelton; daughters Di-
ana English of Seattle and Donna
Benson of Olympia; grandchildren

Diana Mae Johnson died on
Tuesday, July 31, at Saint Peter
Hospital in Olympia. She was 70
and had lived in Union for the past
15 years.
She was born on October 28,
1936 in Breckenridge, Minne-
sota, to Robert and Luella (Mit-
zel) Strubel. She graduated from
Wahpeton High School in Wahpe-
ton, North Dakota, and earned a
bachelor's degree at the College of
Saint Scholastica in Duluth, Min-
nesota, and an associate's degree
as an accredited record technician
from the American Association of
Medical Records Librarians.
She married Clifford Eugene
Johnson on June 13, 1956 at Saint
Johns, Arizona. They reaffirmed
their vows on June 28, 1956 at
Evangelical United Brethren
Church in Great Bend, North Da-
kota.
Along with her husband and
mother, Mrs. Johnson owned and
operated Great Bend Lockers. She
was the chief medical records tech-
nician at Wheaton Community
Hospital in Wheaton, Minnesota.
She also taught classes at North
Dakota State School of Science
and worked at the Washington
State Department of Health.
She enjoyed camping with the
Good Sam recreational vehicle
club, cooking, sewing, quilting,
gardening, genealogy research,
bird watching, little white dogs,
breakfast with friends at the Shel-
ton Eagles Aerie after church and
visiting on her porch with neigh-
bars. She was an active member of
the United Methodist Church and
the Friendly Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by
her parents.

pher Johnson and wife Suzanne
of Wahpeton; daughter Elizabeth

Grace Scott
died of ovarian cancer at home, Belfair, WA,
August 4th in the care of her family. Born in
Tracyton, WA to Clarence Rakestraw and
Eva Lindsay Rakestraw on August 18th,
1933 she was the youngest of four. She grew
up in Tracyton with family (Bonnie, Alyce
and Sam) and friends. She often shared memories of fishing trips with her
father, who built the boats. Trips that she clearly held dear.
Still at home she met and fell in love with her lifetime partner Ralph Scott.
They made their home in Belfair where Wanda stayed home and raised
four children. She was first, foremost and always mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. Family was always her focus. As their children
grew and left home Wanda and Ralph began a new chapter in their lives.
just the two of them again, they were able to travel extensively and ulti-
mately decided on Yuma, AZ for their winter home. They made lasting
friendships with wonderful people and enjoyed their time living and trav-
eling in the Southwest. Her health brought them home to the Northwest
last year as she faced challenges of her cancer with her family.
She was a lover of flowers, reading and spending time on the beach. Her
home was richest when filled with family, friends and food. Her founda-
tion was the relationship between husband and wife, a relationship that
only grew closer over the past couple of years.
She is forever in our hearts and we are grateful for a lifetime of memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband Ralph Scott of Belfair, WA;
daughter, Sally Scott and husband Brian Roper of Olympia, VCA; daughter,
Susan and husband Drew Landram of Burbank, WA; son, Gary and wife
Cindy Scott of Kent, WA; son, Tom arid wife Ira Scott of Bremerton,
WA; seven grandchildren Jeremy, Jason and Jennifer Landram, Lisa and
Dan Scott, Jeff Westerberg and Ella Scott, and two great-grandchildren
Cienna and Brody Landram.
As a family we would like to express our gratitude to those that have
helped and supported us over the past few weeks; Old and new friends

mately decided on Yuma, AZ for their winter home. They made lasting
friendships with wonderful people and enjoyed their time living and trav-
eling in the Southwest. Her health brought them home to the Northwest
last year as she faced challenges of her cancer with her family.
She was a lover of flowers, reading and spending time on the beach. Her
home was richest when filled with family, friends and food. Her founda-
tion was the relationship between husband and wife, a relationship that
only grew closer over the past couple of years.
She is forever in our hearts and we are grateful for a lifetime of memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband Ralph Scott of Belfair, WA;
daughter, Sally Scott and husband Brian Roper of Olympia, VCA; daughter,
Susan and husband Drew Landram of Burbank, WA; son, Gary and wife
Cindy Scott of Kent, WA; son, Tom arid wife Ira Scott of Bremerton,
WA; seven grandchildren Jeremy, Jason and Jennifer Landram, Lisa and
Dan Scott, Jeff Westerberg and Ella Scott, and two great-grandchildren
Cienna and Brody Landram.
As a family we would like to express our gratitude to those that have
helped and supported us over the past few weeks; Old and new friends
have touched us deeply through this piece of the journey. In lieu of flowers
