As turnout draws near: $00c-0000tes have coach champln' Its almost time tbr soccer's ning August 13. Completing all Lady Highclimbers to kick off a new season. Any 9th- through 12th-grade girls attending Shelton schools have the opportunity to join "one of the most exciting, fastest-growing, up-and-coming girls' high-school soccer programs in this state," to quote returning head coach Brett Bartlett. "We hope the ladies are as thrilled with the chance to play for us as we are to have them in a Shelton uni- form," he adds. "There is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the future of Lady Climber soccer." With his Climbers return- ing seven all-con- ference players and several ath- letic letter-win- ners for their second season in the 3A Western Cascade Con- ference, notes Coach, "there are plenty of reasons tbr the players, parents, staff and community to be excited." A PRESEASON MEETING is scheduled for Monday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Shelton High School SUB. Bartlett encourages all interested players and their parents to attend. "The staff will be covering top- ics like staff introductions, expec- tations, eligibility, lettering cri- teria, school district athletic poli- cies, team guidelines and the turn- out, practice and game schedules," says the coach. "There will also be a question-and-answer session. Those players unable to attend are asked to contact Bartlett at bbartlett@sheltonsehools.org. "Our long-term goal is to be a consistent postseason program," he says.'"In order to achieve our ultimate objective we actively build our student-athletes in sev- eral areas. We emphasize aca- demic achievement, team concept, technical development, physical fitness - strength, speed, quick- ness, and endurance - tactical knowledge, mental discipline and competitive spirit at all levels. "WE HAVE AN amazing staff who really love what they do, which is part of the reason for our continued growth. We anticipate nearly double the players we had our first year, two seasons ago, when we had 36 girls. "With those numbers we will of- fer at least three squads this fall, which should mean a lot of teach- ing and field time, especially for developing players.
