Not-guilty pleas:
Kenyons are charged with
gun crime, injury assault
A young Shelton man who is
incarcerated in the state's prison
system with a release date of 2025
began proceedings on another felo-
ny charge in Mason County Supe-
rior Court Monday.
James Ryan Kenyon, 23, en-
tered a not-guilty plea to a charge
of unlawful possession of a hand-
gun in the first degree stemming
from a 2004 incident. He was
charged in connection with a hand-
gun he allegedly had in his posses-
sion on October 14, 2004. Kenyon
was not allowed to own or possess
a firearm because of a previous
conviction on a charge of arson in
the second degree.
According to the arresting
agency affidavit, Kenyon was at-
tempting to elude a pursuing po-
lice vehicle when, knowing he had
a 9-ram Smith and Wesson semi-
automatic pistol which he wasn't
allowed to possess, he threw the
firearm from his vehicle while
making a turn: However, accord-
ing to a Shelton Police Department
affidavit of probable cause, he told
his girlfriend at the time, Destiny
Meehan, about the gun during a
taped telephone call from the Ma-
son County Jail, and also talked to
his father about it.
Jeannette Boothe was appoint-
ed to represent Kenyon, who is to
appear for omnibus proceedings
October 1, pretrial and readiness
hearings October 15 and 19, and
trial in the term beginning Octo-
ber 23.
A NUMBER OF other people
were also arraigned on Monday
before Judge James Sawyer:
• Bradley Damon Kenyon,
43, of 502 Maple Street, Shel-
ton, entered a not-guilty plea to
a charge of assault in the second
degree. He was assisted by attor-
ney James Foley in answering the
charge, filed after he allegedly hit
April Bunting while holding her
by the hair at his residence on
July 17.
Bunting, according to an affida-
vit prepared on July 20 by Depu-
ty Doug Smith, suffered broken
bones in her face as a result of the
assault.
Kenyon, who remains in cus-
tody, is scheduled to appear for
omnibus proceedings August 27,
pretrial and readiness hearings
September 17 and 21, and trial in
the term beginning September 25.
• Kenneth Earl Nelson, 18,
of 3914 SE Salmonberry Road,
Port Orchard, pled not guilty to a
charge of malicious mischief in the
first degree.
He was identified July 30 in
an investigation of vandalism to
golf carts in the summer of 2006
at LakeLand Village Golf Course
in Allyn. Judge Toni Sheldon ap-
pointed Eric Valley and released
Nelson, who appeared after receiv-
ing a summons in the mail, on his
promise to appear for future court
dates. She ordered him to have
no contact with potential codefen-
dants and the golf course.
Nelson is suspected of damag-
ing electronics in the panels of four
golf carts on June 9, 2006, when
he was 17 years old. He allegedly
participated in the offense with at
least three other people, according
to sheriffs office reports. Omnibus
proceedings are set for October 1,
with pretrial and readiness hear-
ings October 15 and 19 and trial in
the week beginning October 23.
• Kenneth Gene Bopp, 47, of
571 NE Trudeau Mountain Road,
Belfair, entered a not-guilty plea
to a charge of possession of meth-
amphetamine. He was identified
July 30 in the wake of an inves-
tigation begun December 21, 2005
at his Trudeau Mountain Road
residence. Judge Sheldon appoint-
ed Eric Valley as defense counsel
and set bail at $2,500.
Bopp was arrested after officers
with the Washington Department
of Corrections and the sheriffs of-
fice conducted a home visit and
found two small bags containing a
white crystal powder which field-
tested positive for meth. He was
on supervision for a second-degree
assault conviction. Bopp report-
edly said the meth found in the
bedroom was his.
Valley entered an objection to
the timeliness of the arraignment.
* Ezekiel D. Lee, 22, who is in
the custody of the Department of
Corrections, appeared on a charge
of custodial assault. Judge Sawyer
identified and arraigned him. Ron-
ald Sergi stood in for defense at-
torney Foley, whom Judge Sawyer
appointed to represent him, to en-
tera not-guilty plea to the charge.
Lee was ordered to appear for
omnibus proceedings October 1,
pretrial and readiness hearings
October 15 and 19, and trial in the
term beginning October 23.
Michael Martin Meurs Jr.,
18, of 180 Lake Forest Drive, A1-
lyn, a codefendant in a case involv-
ing vandalism to buses and school
facilities at North Mason High
School, pled not guilty to amend-
ed information changing dates on
vandalism incidents in which he is
accused of participating.
He was also arraigned on an ad-
ditional charge, arson, stemming
from his alleged involvement in
the burning of an obscene figure
into the high-school football field.
He was assisted in court by de-
fense attorney Sergi.
Four defendants were arraigned
on July 30 in unrelated cases and
are scheduled for omnibus hear-
ings August 27, pretrial hearings
October 8 and trials during the
jury terra beginning October 16.
• Jeffery Sterling Walter
Wooldridge, 29, of 11 East Union
Ridge Road, Union, entered not-
guilty pleas to charges of assault
in the second degree, attempted
escape in the third degree and
malicious mischief in the second
degree.
Wooldridge was taken into cus-
tody at gunpoint on July 18 after
allegedly threatening Brandon
D. Wellborn with a gun which re-
sembled a semi-automatic weapon
but was later identified as an "air
soft pellet gun." That's according
to a statement filed with the court
and written by Sergeant Jerry
Lingle of the Shelton Police De-
partment: Wellborn reported see-
ing Wooldridge, his former friend,
parked in a white Suburban in the
700 block of Birch Street. The al-
leged victim walked up to the rig
and Wooldridge reportedly point-
ed a black semi-automatic weapon
at him through a closed window
and told Wellborn to get away or
he would shoot him.
Wellborn said he was convinced
the gun was real and Wooldridge
was going to shoot him. He left the
area and reported the incident, ac-
cording to Lingle's report.
Wooldridge was taken to the po-
lice station and placed in a holding
cell. He is accused of trying to pick
the lock with a carpenter's nail,
damaging the cell door and lock.
• David Everett Swader, 35,
of 110 NE Pine Tree Place, Ta-
huya, pied not guilty to attempting
to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
He was arrested July 19 by a
deputy from the Mason County
Sheriffs Office who reported using
a radar gun to clock the speed of a
vehicle Swader was driving at 74
miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-
hour zone on the Belfair-Tahuya
Road. The driver of the vehicle re-
portedly sped up as the officer ac-
tivated the lights and siren on his
patrol vehicle and attempted to
stop the vehicle which was speed-
ing. The deputy said the vehicle
turned into a driveway at the Ta-
huya residence and the driver was
identified as Swader.
• Robert Dale Beasley Jr.,
40, of 220 East Tahuya Drive,
Shelton, entered not-guilty pleas
to three counts of violation of a no-
contact order.
He was arrested July 12 when
he showed up for a trial readi-
ness hearing in another superior
court case in which he is accused
of breaking into a residence at
10 East Colvos Place, Shelton, on
March 23 and assaulting Carl L.
Hills, who was living with Rene M.
Demmon, with whom Beasley had
had a dating relationship. Officers
said Beasley is named in a protec-
tion order in that case which pro-
hibits contact with Demmon and
Hills.
On April 15 Kristopher W. Kord
and Brandy L. Kord reported see-
ing Beasley and Demmon together
at a party at Colvos Place. Dem-
men shares custody of a 7-year-old
child with Mr. Kord and she re-
portedly told him she did not want
their son to know she was living
with Beasley. She reportedly told
Mr. Kord things were resolved be-
tween her and Beasley and they
were "living together on the sly."
Carl Hills reportedly saw Bea-
sley drive into the parking lot at
Wal-Mart in a 1999 red Explorer
on July 4 and watched Beasely
drive around and then pick up
Demmon with a cart full of gro-
ceries. Detectives Jack Gardner
and Luther Pittman of the Mason
County Sheriffs Office said they
located the vehicle on July 10 in
the driveway at 220 Tahuya Drive
and at about 10:32 a.m., the detec-
tives said, they saw Demmon get
into the vehicle and back out of
the driveway, going to her shift at
Anchor Bank which started at 11
a.m. on July 11.
• Anthony Owen DeMiero,
41, of 51 NE Salty Drive, Belfair,
pled not guilty to a charge of fel-
ony harassment• He was arrested
July 15 and is accused of threat-
ening to shoot his neighbor, John
Greenway, with a crossbow• The
neighbors were reportedly arguing
about their dogs and others in the
neighborhood.

Donald James Ahrens, 66,
of 173 NE Steelhead Drive South,
Belfair, appeared with defense
attorney Charles Houle and pre-
sented his certificate of comple-
tion of a program begun after he
was charged with assault. Depu-
ty Prosecutor Reinhold Schuetz
agreed with his attorney that a

manding course of diversion was
Steven Edward Strand, who
was entered into the diversion
program with Friendship seeking
resolution of a charge of third-de-
gree assault, a domestic-violence
offense, filed earlier this year.
Deputy Prosecutor Rebecca Jones
Garcia told the court diversion
was the desired outcome sought
by the victim in the case, and said
Strand was currently involved in
alcohol counseling.
Judge Sawyer reminded Strand
that he waives his trial rights and
if he fails the program, he will be
tried at the bench on the basis of
the police report, but that charges
will be dismissed if he succeeds.
He is scheduled for diversion re-
view on August 11, 2008.
