New Addition
Is Progressing
At MS. View
The Mt. View School library -
classroom addition is progressing
satisfactorily and on schedule
with the completion date
expected to be in October,
according to Louis Grinnell,
superintendent. The new addition
will include three classrooms built
with team-teaching in mind. Walls
will be movable, with a built-in
television system. The library will
be extra large with wired carrels,
movable shelving, and a room off
the classrooms and library that
will be used for small-group
instruction. All areas of the
building, with the exception of
the hall and lavatory, will be
carpeted.
Depending on fall pupil
enrollment, until the classrooms
are finished some classes may be
large at Mt. View with two
teachers instructing in one room
in some cases. When the
classrooms are finished, the
groups in some grades will be split
and sent to the nFw addition, if
enrollment is epecially high,
some youngsters may be bused to
one of the other elementary
schools, as has been done in the
past, until the classrooms are
completed.
The completion of the Mt.
View classroom addition will give
the elementary sehoo cnouKh
'kpaee for several' years. Student
population growth in the school
district, with the new four-year
college opening in 1971 anti other
employment that could increase
in the area, may create further
space problems, particularly at
the secondary level. At present,
school board appointed Citizens'
Advisory Committees are
studying secondary building
changes. Since the completion of
the Bordeaux primary addition
and the Mt. View Elementary
School classrooms, the emphasis
will shift to secondary building
improvements.
The downtown school complex
for secondary students needs a
major change in the form of a
new high school or "middle
(junior hh) school" located on
the new school site in the Mt.
View area on the Spring Road, to
allow for better secondary
facilities and secondary student
population growth.
