When a deputy found the vehicle, which authori- ties later discovered was driven by Kingsland, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Kingsland drove away eastbound West Shelton Matlock Road at speeds reaching 100 mph, according to the Sheriffs Office probable cause declaration. The chase continued through West Deegan Road West before Kingsland at- tempted to ram a pursuing deputy with the Chevy and struck a parked vehicle. As additionM law enforcement units from the Shelton Police Department joined the pursuit, Kingsland drove eastbound on West Railroad Avenue, then through the construction zone on Northcliff Road, and northbound on East McReavy Road to state Route 106. At about Milepost 3 on state Route 106, a Shelton officer successfully performed Pursuit Intervention Tech- nique maneuver, and Kingsland lost control of the Chevy, where it rolled and landed in the ditch. Kingsland wasn't jailed or officially charged until his May 28 arraignment hearing to receive treatment for an in- fected jaw that predated the car chase.
