Barbers celebrate 25 years of marriage
Paul and Kristine (Peterson) Barber both currently live in Bellingham. To
were married August 14, 1982 in Seat- celebrate their anniversary, they took a
tie. He works as a sghool teacher and a cruise to Alaska. The couple belongs to

Community potluck picnic and Middle
Skokomish School reunion will take place
Saturday, September 8, at the Skokomish
Grange Hall. All former and present valley
residents are invited to attend and bring
family and friends to reminisce about life
in the Skokomish Valley. If a family is new
to the community, it's a good way to get
acquainted with neighbors. The Skokom-
ish Grange sponsors the gathering and
will furnish coffee, juice and eating uten-
sils. The event begins at noon. Partici-
pants are urged to bring photographs to
show and stories to share. More informa-
tion is available by calling Dick Doak at
426-1453, Karen Ragan at 426-2426 or Bil-
lie Howard at 426-8443.

dance lesson
The Shelton Square and
Round Dance Club is sponsor-
ing a new series of dance les-
sons.
Bill Odam of Olympia will
teach a 16-week course on
square dance movements begin-
ning on Tuesday, September 11.
Mary and Scott Parsons, also of
Olympia, will teach two-step
dance lessons beginning Thurs-
day, September 20.
Dance lessons will run from
7 to 9 p.m. at Skookum Com-
munity Hall, 3480 Lynch Road
in Shelton. This is located 3.5
miles down Lynch Road off
Highway 101. These classes are
intended for everyone, ranging
from preteens to senior adults.
The first lesson is free and
thereafter a $5 donation will be
requested for adults and $2 for
young people ages 10 and up.
Families may pay a special rate
of $10 per lesson.
Square dancing originated
with the pioneers, who brought
with them a French dance called
the quadrille - which means
"square," when they came to the

series of figures and footwork. A
caller directs dancers. It became
the official state dance in 1979.

Members of the Irene S. Reed High School Class of 1947 will
meet for lunch at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at the Royal
Shanghai Restaurant, 2517 Olympic Highway North in Shelton.
All spouses, members and friends are welcome.

The Equestrienne of Mason County will conduct a regular meet-
ing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at Taylor Station Restau-
rant, located south of Shelton at 62 SE Lynch Road. The meeting
room will open at 6 p.m. for dinner and socializing before the meet-
ing.
Kroum will update Kiwanis
Linda Kroum, co-thunder and volunteer of Turning Pointe Do-
mestic Violence Services, will provide an update on the new fa-
cility her organization hopes to build. This building will shelter
victims of domestic violence and their families as they reestablish
their lives. Kroum's presentation will be to the Shelton Kiwanis
Club at noon on Tuesday, September 4, at Xinh's Clam and Oyster
House located at Third Street and Railroad Avenue in downtown
Shelton.
