Eagle eyes a whopper Shelton 81-year-old Wentz Eagle displays the cucum- ber his friend Joe Rank plucked for him last Sunday out of the garden of his Fifth Street home. Harvested along with a bunch of others more nearly normal in size, it measures almost 18 inches in length, says Wentz. OysterFest sponsors art with crustacean Calling all area artists: The art and photography department of OysterFest invites artists to enter their work in the OysterFest Fine Arts Competition. Gold medals and $1.50 checks will be awarded tbr best of theme, best of art and best of photogra- phy, as well as ibr the people's choice and the judges' choice. Rib- bons will be awarded to the first- place and runner-up winners in every class and division of both art and photography. "Best of Theme" is the piece chosen that best reflects the crustacean spirit of OysterFest, officially known as the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington State Seatbod Festival. Watercolors, oils, pastels and acrylics are in the paintings cate- gory; pencil, pen and ink and char- coal sketches are in the drawings category; carvings, bronze works and sculptures are in the three- dimensional category; color prints, black and white prints, sepia-toned images and computer-generated images are in the photography category; and there is a category for hand-tbrmed ceramics. Information about require- ments, guidelines and advance registration is available on-line at www.oysterfest.org, or call Rhonda at 427-1217. Entries will be accepted in the Art and Pho- tography Building at the Mason County Fairgrounds, Sunday through Tuesday, September 30 through October 2, between 3 and 6 p.m. There will be a non-refund- able entry fee of $12 per entrant per division.
