shotgun and several 12-gauge
shotgun shells in a car driven by
Reggie Powell. He said police also
found several spent shotgun cas-
ings on the parking lot.
The person who was injured by
a shotgun pellet was not part of
the confrontation, according to
police. However, the alleged vic-
tim who suffered a broken jaw
was directly involved in the clash.

that this other person at some
point during the physical alterca-

started shooting at them," Pfitzer
wrote.
First center event isn't, after all:
Home show cancelled
due to lack of vendors
q'he h)cal Home Show will be a
no-show, at least fi)r this fall.
I'at Brooks, president of the
Home Builders Association of Ma-
son County, told Shelton city com-
missioners Monday that the asso-
ciation's annual Home Show,
scheduled as the first public event
in the Shelton Civic Center, has
been canceled.
The reason fi)r the cancella-
tion? Brooks said the home build-
ers could not sell enough spots for
vendors to break even on the
event, which was slated for Sep-
tember 10-12.
"We'll regroup and see what we
can do about a Home Show in the
future," he told commissioners.
"All in all, the city was very coop-
erative in almost every area of
this."
Brooks said he wanted to dis-
pel rumors that the city had given
the association nothing but trou-
ble over the event. There were
some roadblocks, he said, but no
insurmountable ob§tacles.
However, a proposal by the as-
sociation to erect a huge tent in
the front parking lot of the civic
center during the Home Show
was earlier denied by the city
during the special-event permit
process. The association request-
ed it be allowed to erect the 40-
by-80-foot tent in the lot. The tent
would be anchored to the asphalt
lot by a number of stakes.
The city staffs main concern
was the condition of the brand-
new asphalt parking lot. Brooks
said the association had been
working with the city on" a backup
plan, which included installation
of permanent, recessed "hold
downs" that would be out of sight.

A visiting judge will review a
claim by Mitchell Rupe that the
man who prosecuted him for two
murders had a conflict because he

Bank.
The 45-year-old Rupe was con-
victed of killing two bank clerks
while a resident of Shelton during
a robbery of the bank's West
Olympia branch on September 17,
1981. Since then he has filed a
number of appeals, including one
that claimed hanging was cruel
and unusual punishment because
he weighed 409 pounds and might
have his head ripped off by the
noose.
