TrashMash cleanup tackles
Hamma Hamma on Tuesday
The TrashMash! Litter Posse rides again, this
time to Upper Hamma Hamma Falls, bagging litter
and trash to be hauled out of the Olympic National
Forest from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. on Tuesday, the day
after Labor Day, marking the end of a COVID-
crowded 2020 tourism season.
The litter posse is a volunteer group that meets
in the mornings, drives to litter “target zones,”
and enjoys some walking recreation while ridding
Mason County’s most beautiful locations of litter,
illegal dumping and camping violations.
The litter posse meets at the Lilliwaup Commu—
nity Club Historic School at 9 am. on Tuesday for a
20-minute orientation. Following that, posse mem-
bers will drive to the Hamma Hamma Recreation

"What profitis there in agreeing that universal
friendship ‘is good, and talking of the solidarity
of the human race as a grand ideal? Unless these thoughts
are translated into the world of action, they are useless. The
wrong in the world continues to exist just because people
talk only of their ideals, and do not strive to put them into
practice. it actions took the place of words, the world’s misery
would very soon be changed into comfort."

“Unfortunately, one of the things we’ve seen is
that people aren’t recognizing that clam and mus-
sel seasons may vary from oyster seasons on some
beaches,” Camille Speck, Puget Sound intertidal
bivalve manager for WDFW, said in a news release.
“As a result, we must now close oysters on these
beaches in order to prevent continued illegal clam.
harvest that will impact future years’ clam seasons
and populations.”
Despite previous clam closures at several sites,
managers are reporting consistently high num~
bers of people showing up to harvest clams, “even
though these beaches have signs indicating the clo—
sures,” said Speck.
