ERE IN MASON COUNTY, the cow is an important ani-
mal. In the future, she should be evenmore important.
Qualified authorities agree that, Mason County is
well suited for a greatly expanded dairy industry
--and such expansion would be a very good thing•
It would have. a stabilizing effect on other business.
It would provide new "sources of income, new em-
' q .......... " ployment, new purchasing power. For milk is more
...... :: than an important basic food; it is the foundation
.......... ." r :r " .... "T "" for many other industries as well. Modern science
makes synthetic textiles fibres from milk. Glue, paint
and plastics are other by-products of dairying. And of course there are related
foods--cheese, butter and dessert compounds.
Yes Mason County citizens should do everything they
can to encourage the dairy industry. This can be done
in the same manner that any industry is encouraged. For
the cow, literally, is a productive maehinea classic
example of conversion efficiency. Just as a factory trans-
forms raw materials into a finished product, so the cow
converts feed, forage and water into milk.
The operator of a dairy "factory" is an industrialist, facing
the same basic problems as does the owner of any other
factory. He must invest: money in productive machinery
I I II
--his cows. He must invest in raw materials--the feed and forage. If he
operates enough machines--enough cows--he must hire other men to help run
this factory and thus becomes an employer.
Of course he fiaust sell his product. With the proceeds he must pay for the
cow and the feed. He must pay those who have helped him. He hopes,
naturally, that he will have something "left over"--something for himself as a
return on his investment and as compensation for the risk he took when he
first created his "milk factory."
Dairying, or any other business venture depends on this very fundamental
principle. Dairying is greatly influenced by busines conditions--and by the
man-made "weather" of political and economic law. If .this weather is favorabl e, .....
then enterprise will expand. Everyone will benefit.
Maon County--and all Americawas founded and built on
the ndamental principle that any man or woman should have
the right to workshould have the right to start a business of
hl own and to enjoy the fruits of his labor. As a result, no
other nation in the whole world can approach the industrial
might of America. In no other nation has the Standard of living
risen so high for the individual willing to work for it. This
results from the American Way of Life, and is the pathway to
an even greater America. Why change it?
The sponsors of this series of advertisements devoted to com-
munity betterment re citizens of this community. They own
homes here. Their children go to school here. They have a deep
sense of responsibility to the individual citizens and to changes
which will affect the community. They are interested in devel-
oping a healthy community ollowing the American Way of
Life, and thus keeping America and Mason County strong for
the generations to come.
The American way of life has always assured this
favorable weather. It has always emphasized the idea-
the ideal- that any man shall be privileged to risk his
time and money in an enterprise of his own choosing
• . . that he shall be master of his own destiny . . . 'that
he will have the opportunity to succeed and to enjoy
the fruits of his effort.
This ideal made America great. A0plied with courage
and sincerity in the future it can give new strength 'o
Mason County's dairy industry- to all other industry, all
other business, both in this community and in the nation
as a whole °
