Two additional areas will be closed during non-clamming season. The closures will take effect Friday, September 8. The parks commission's action was taken following a recent Washington State Supreme Court decision in Sire v. Washington. James H. Davenport, assistant attorney general for state parks, explained that the decision "invalidated the Pacific County Superior Court's prior invalidation of state parks rules." Charles H. Odegaard, state parks director, said, "We will now continue to assume our rules are valid and we will enforce them. The traffic limitations are not intended to remove all cars from all beaches at all times. They are for small and specific areas, in some cases during only part of the year." Signs indicating beaches dosed to vehicular traffic during non.clamming season will be posted in front of Leadbetter Point State Park - natural area and in front of Griffiths.Priday Ocean State Park - recreation area. The following beaches will be closed year-round to vehicular traflic: North Beach - Butter Clam Avenue south to the north jetty. (2.5 miles.) South Beach - from Bongo approach north to the south jetty. (4.25 miles.) Long Beach - (1) From north jetty at the mouth of the Columbia to North Head (2.25 miles); (2) From the north boundary of Leadbetter Point State Park -- natural area - to the northern tip of Leadbetter Point (2.50 miles). Washington University with Freedom from justice One of the greatest disasters that happened to modern civilization was for democracy to inscribe "liberty" on its banners instead of "justice." Because "liberty" was considered the ideal it was not long until some men interpreted it as meaning "freedom from justice;" then when religion and decent government attempted to bring them back to justice, organized into "freedom groups" they protested that their constitutional and natural rights were being violated. The industrial and social injustice of our era is the tragic aftermath of democracy's over-emphasis on freedom as the "right to do whatever you please." No, freedom means the right to do what you ought, and ought implies law, and law implies justice, and justice implies God.
