Kayden wrote that he wanted to thank coaches
Graham Mercado, Thomas, his father and his Little
League coaches, crediting each for helping him im-
prove in different areas.
“Kayden has played Little League since he was
4 years old, but has been playing baseball in gener-
al since he could walk,” Kayden’s mother, Meghan,
wrote in an email. “As a toddler, he had great hand/
eye coordination. All of his uncles, great’uncles,
both of his grandpas and dad would play ball with
him all the time. Kayden never wanted to stop. He
would take naps with his bat and ball.”
Kayden played recreational baseball for James
Island Recreation in Charleston, South Carolina,
for two years, before his family returned to Allyn.
He played three years witthorth Mason Little
League and has competed for Shockwave Select
Baseball Club the past two years. ,
“We enjoy being part of the Shockwave Baseball
Club because it allows Kayden the opportunity
to support his Little League program, play with
friends in Little League, but still have another level
of competition,” Meghan wrote. “(He gets to) meet

“He has such a big heart,” Meghan wrote. “There
has been many times where he caught so many foul
balls (that) he shared with other kids in the sta-
dium so that everyone left with something.”
