Jim Smith The Medicine Shoppe ® Pharmacy Weight and Postmeno- pausal Breast Cancer Risk Postmenopausai women who exercise and keep their weight down substantially reduce their risk of breast cancer. Data from the Nurses' Health Study, which began in 1976 with over 120,000 women who have been monitored twice each year, shows that weight loss after menopause decreases the risk of.breast cancer. Women who gained 55 pounds or more after age 18 were 1.5 times more likely to get breast cancer compared to women who did not gain weight after their late teens. However, women who lost 22 pounds or more after menopause had a 57 percent lower risk of breast cancer than the "weight gainers." Regular exercise (at least a half hour a day of exercise, at least five days a week) and a high-fiber diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products for calcium, no fried foods if at all possible, and more protein from plants and less from animals, are recommended. 1-800-640-5503 207 Professional Way 426-4272 (Across from the hospital) Page 18 - Shelton-Mason County Journal - Thursday, September 13, 2007 Lystra Wilson, M.D. ..... i i! i: :: Equal:OrtuniW Provider Translation Services Provided 5e habla espaSol Designated Level 4 Trauma Facility Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations Welcome Dr. Wilson We are pleased to announce Lystra Wilson, M.D. is on staff at Mason General Hospital and is working with Mountain View Women's Health Center in providing obstetrics and gynecology care.
