Renton's gonna show you, just like
last year, that they'll have a pretty
good team by the end of the year,
what with the athletic ability they

TO THE OBVIOUS satisfaction of Climber junior Melyssa*Adams in the
visitors' rooting section, the Climbers take it to nonleague Renton in the
Indians' synthetic-turfed stadium Friday evening. That's all-league se-
nior Kyle Burbridge (32) making a one-handed reception in the nearmost
inset en route to his 226-yard multipurpose offensive production, and
celebrating a no-gain defensive stuff right above him are teammates
Robert Moliga (59) and Kevin Eichhorn (11). Alas, junior veteran Eich-
horn later sustained a fractured femur and, though spared much worse by
dint of a medical miracle of sorts, will be lost for the season. The Climbers
weathered Renton's first-half display of speed and cruised to a 41-7 win.
Soccer's Climber girls:
Their lone loss? Blood loss
Bloodied but not defeated, soc-
cer's Climber varsity girls got off
to an eventful if not altogether
triumphant start last week, tying
Black Hills and Tumwater 1-1 in
nonleague action that wound up
with two girls in the hospital.
"It was just kind of a freak
thing, but it was unintentional,"
says Climber head coach Brett
Bartlett, characterizing the emo-
tional culmination of Thursday's
Tumwater donnybrook, which saw
sophomore veteran Megan Lund of
the Climbers get cut to the bone in
the process of knocking two teeth
out of the mouth of a Tumwater
defender.
"The girl had a hold of Meg's
arm, and the kid fouled her," says
Bartlett. "And Meg was fightin'
to get free, and her arm came up
- right into the kid's front teeth.
"And, you know, little skinny
Megan: all arms and elbows and
stuff like that. And it cut her el-
bow all the way to the bone; you
