The Asset Building Co-
alition and United Way of
Mason County are sponsor-
ing free financial education
classes in October.
The purpose of these class-
es, which take place Oct 8, 15,
22 and 29, is to provide finan-
cial hope, opportunity and
choice to low-income indi-
viduals and families through
fun, interactive classes in a
friendly environment, orga-
nizers said.
Classes will be held at
Shelton Timberland Library
at 710 W. Alder St., Shelton.
They are scheduled for 5:30-
7:00 p.m.
Snacks and childcare will
be provided.
Upon completion of all four
classes, participants may re-
ceive a $25 beginning balance
in a savings account at Our
Community Credit Union.
The classes will cover iden-
tity theft, budgeting, practi-
cal shopping tips, banking
and credit.
Space is limited, and par-
ticipants must register in

Meet Red. He is a very friendly and lovable Chesapeake Bay retriever that is
about a year old. He may have ,a little Australian shepherd in him, too. He has
two white legs, two white feet and no tail. He is very active and full of exuberance
so will do well in an active family where he will not be left alone for long periods
of time. He will jump a fence if left alone. He loves the water, enjoys playing with

Elma scheduled Buckaroo Days Festival
The 3rd annual Elma Buckaroo
Days Festival, a family friendly event,
takes place on Sept. 22.
The festival includes a parade,
entertainment, vendors, a chili and
salsa competition with tasting, mut-
tin' bustin' for the little buckaroos,
a "paws-itively fun" dog show, pony
rides, kiddy train rides, buggy rides,
bouncy houses, a karaoke contest,
Puget Sound Railroad locomotive
tours, Elma Fire Department kids'
activities, Elma Timberland Library
scavenger hunt, games and contests.
The Grand Parade starts at Elma
High School beginning at 11 a.m. and
proceeds down Main Street to Second
Street, ending at Second and Martin
streets. The parade is sponsored by
Grays Harbor Radio and coordinated
by the Grays Harbor Mounted Pos-
se. Cash awards and ribbons will be
given for the best entries in several
categories include the best buckaroo-
themed entry. New this year we are
including a category for the best buck-
aroo-themed costumed pet on a leash.
Buckaroo Days Chili and Salsa
Cook-Off starts at 9 a.m. on Second
Street, in front of Elma Feed & Farm
Supply. Top cash award is $250.
Pre-registration is required. Tickets
for the chili-tasting competition are
available from the chamber booth.
Elma Feed & Farm Supply and Les
Schwab Tire Center are partnering to
bring in free family and kids' activi-
ties from noon-4 p.m. The Washing-
ton State Fiddlers will entertain on
the Elma Feed & Farm Supply stage
throughout the day.
Enter your pooch starting at 12:30
p.m. in one of the many fun catego-
ries: smallest, biggest, wiggliest and
more.
After the downtown festival, adults
should head to Elma Guesthouse Inn
& Suites for the Buckaroo Days Beer
& Wine Fest from 4-9 p.m. Sample
wines from Westport Winery, beer
from Westport Brewery and listen to
music by Sweetkiss Momma. Admis-
sion is free.
