"It's sug- gestive but you don't see a thing ... my kids can still be in the same room." A committee of leader- ship within Fire District 17 and neighboring districts screens the photos taken for the calendar, Miles said. "I'm walking on this tightrope that's about as thick as a fishing line," she said. "The reality is sex sells." Miles is still looking for advertising for the calen- dar, as well as women fire- fighters and EMTs to pose for pictures. "I'm still looking. I've got room for a couple more girls," she said. A tugboat in Aberdeen, by Robert Chamberlain. Artists Continued from page B-1 Street and Railroad Avenue with the vintage automobiles in i930s Shelton. "I can't do it anymore," Chamberlain said. "I can't climb around. Most people in Shelton know me by my murals." Chamberlain also painted eight intricately detailed works depicting downtown Olympia from 1846 through 2001. They are on display at the Tim- berland Regional Library branch in downtown Olympia. "It's my claim to fame," he said. Winsor was the one who spotted the potential in the structure built in 1941 as a Standard gas station on what was then Highway 101. The building at 4521 Harrison Ave. (but commonly considered part of Mud Bay Road) was "sure a mess inside," Winsor said. "The outside looked nice," Chamber- lain recalled. "The inside was a disas- ter." Journal photo by Gordon Weeks The building's car hoist was covered in concrete, and the landlord added flowers out front. "There's no heat or water or plumb- ing," said Chamberlain, adding that some of those elements will be added later. The words "tackle & supplies" and "turkey feed" are still painted on the windows, but the artists have created a large sandwich board sign to clear up any confusion from passing motorists: "Gas no, art yes," UNOCAL 76 PRODUCTS Tl00IEIfi W. 150 Sanderson Way ° Motor Oils & Hydraulic Oils ° Industrial Lubricants * h[utomotive Oils ° Metal Working Fluids ° Greases & Gear Oils • Solvents & Antifreeze ° Cutting Oils ° Job Site High-Volume Commercial Diesel Fueling ° Pump Repair, Tanks, Nozzles, Grease Guns ° Heating Oil Delivered ° Shelton, WA 98584 . ^ . : , -: Kerosene: .... 1-800-826'8959 • (360) :427-8084 ..... .... : ........ i6 WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE SELLING MORE OF THIS WEEK?
