Climbers Open Grid Play Friday
By JAN DONALDSON
• Shelton's football hopes come
to life in a non-league game at
Elma Friday night. The game
starts at 8 p.m. on the Eagles
field.
This week the Climbers have
been working on their offensive
timing and special phases of de-
fense.
Following last Saturday night's
intra.squad game coach Jerry
Mills' players have really been
fighting for starting positions.
The biggest battle is for the
starting quarterback position be-
tween Bud Tuson and Bill Dan-
iels. They both have looked good
in practice and are very equal
in talent.
Another battle is for the start-
ing fullback position between
seniors Alien Tahja and John
Koch. Tahja and Koch are both
hard hitters and are staging quite
a battle.
Shelton's starting line-up for
the Elma game is as follows
Dave Puhn and Doug Wright at
ends, Tom Malloy and Gene Pur-
vis at tackles, Eldon Allen and
Gary Miltenberger at guards,
Bill Anderson at center, Allen
Tahja or John Koch at fullback,
Ed Adams and Mary Wilson at
halfbacks, and Bud Tuson or Bill
Daniels at quarter back.
Coach Mills had these com-
ments about his team:
"The offense needs work on
the tinting. The passing is com-
ing ahmg fairly good but the
line needs more explosion.
'Tin pleased with the defense,
but we have to cut out a few
foolish errors.
'Tin, especially pleased with
the team as a whole. The play-
ers seem to be in good physical
condition. Polishing our offense
and defense is what we need to
do now."
