Clara Robbins, a senior
on the Shelton girls' soccer
team, describes herself as
an overall positive person.
"Five words that de-
scribe me are cheerful,
optimistic, enthusiastic,
truthful and dependable,"
Robbins said.
Rob-
~bins was
chosen as
the Ath-
lete of the
Week by
her coach.
Mike Mal-
pass.
"She is
a natu-
CLARA ral leader
ROBBINS and she
leads by
example,"
Malpass said. "I think the
other girls see that and try
to emulate her."
Robbins plays center de-
fense for the Highclimbers
and said she has played
defense her whole life and
center for about two years.
She began playing soc-
cer when she was 5 years
old and has continued for
the last 13
years.
"My par-
ents put
me into
soccer and
I just, loved
it from the
start," Rob-
bins said.
"I love the
team, be-
ing able
to play,
the way it
makes me
feel. I can
be aggres-
sive and
"She is a
natural leader
and she leads
by exampleoo.
t think the
other girls see
that and try to
emulate her°"
then smile at the end and
shake hands. It's a great
team sport."
Robbins said she has
been awarded the Most In-
spirational Player award
for the last three years with
the Highclimbers and that
she hopes to play at a 2A or
3A college next year.
"I haven't really re-
searched it but right now
I'm looking into Linfield
College in Oregon," she
said. "It's a smaller school
and the area around it is
small like Shelton. It also
offers athletic training ma-
jors, which is what I want
to major in. Linfield also
has a great study abroad
program."
Robbins said she has al-
ways loved to travel and
study other cultures.
"I've always wanted to
go to Sweden but I hon-
estly don't have an an-
swer why," she said with a
laugh. "My dad went there
when he was in college and
he said the land is just
beautiful."
Soccer is not the only
sport Robbins plays. She
also plays on the girls'
basketball team and par-
ticipates in track in the
spring. In addition to
school sports, Robbins en-
joys water skiing, snowski-
ing and snowboarding and
said her goal before she
goes to college is to learn
how to wakeboard.
When she's not playing
sports or being active in
other ways outdoors c she
also enjoyings hiking and
camping) Robbins is a 3.8
to 3.9 GPA student, ASB
senior class representative
and said she loves to read
mysteries.
"I love how they capti-
vate you and you have to
finish them because you
don't have a clue how it's
going to turn out," she
said.
Her fascination with
mysteries may even be why
one of her favorite courses
this year is
psychology.
"I'm a
really so-
cial person
so learning
about be-
havior and
psychology
is fascinat-
ing to me,"
Robbins
said. "The
way people
do things,
why they
do them...
it makes
me learn
more about me and just
how people do things."
Her other favorite course
this year is athletic train-
ing, which Robbins is plan-
ning her future on.
"I'm sure this is going
to change, but I would love
to get a degree in athletic
training, start at a high
school, work my way to a
college and maybe some
day work with professional
sports," she said.
Robbins said she might
also want to start her own
firm and live in the same
area of Washington some
day.
She added that she actu-
ally enjoys the weather in
Mason County.
"There aren't major ex-
tremes here, but the sea-
sons are so different that I
love it," she said.
