Olympia girls, who "were very
big," had played in about four
matches before meeting Shelton,
whde the local gels had never
played a team from another
school. She figures Olympia is the
best team in the league and "it's
too bad we couldn't have played
them later in the season when
we'd have more experience."
The Olympia girls said the
Shelton team was the best
competition they've had this year,
which gave the Highclimbers a
boost of confidence. Besides "not
really being prepared," the
Shelton girls were caught on a lot
of technicalities in technique, said
Radtke. The referee called
Shelton girls for several rule
infractions, she said.
Shelton's varsity consisted of
captain Betty Andrews,
co-captain Connie Tuson, Bonnie
Brooks, Carol Thompson, Karmel
Parker, Neva Strutz, Laurie
Robbins and Marina LeGault.
The jayvee team, which beat
the Olympia jayvees 15-10, 15-6
and then lost one game 15-9,
included Brinda Surlow, Lori
McCracken, Jaynee Cleveland,
Kay Roller, Gretchen Londahl,
Shed Mix, Jaci Grew, Rundi Leaf,
Darlene Austin, Christi Leaf,
Robin Trucksess, Sharee Franklin,
Pam Hedrick, Teresa Bingen,
Jenny Cross, Kristie Manke, Sue
Raymond and Debt McCracken.
Yvonda Ball keeps statistics.
"We have a big match with
Timberline this Thursday," said
Radtke. The match starts at 3:30
p.m. in Shelton gym. Monday the
girls travel to Aberdeen.
Stan Trimble toured 36 holes
at Lake Cushman Golf Club in
153 strokes, 13 over par, to win
the club championship trophy
during the club's thirdannual
mixed two-ball on Sunday,
September 16. Trimble collected
more prizes when he won the low
gross title with Jo Van Bevers and
had the longest drive for men.
Sixty-four men and women
golfers took part in the
competition. Syd Anderson and
Barbara McDowell won low net;
Arlene Baker had the longest
drive for women; Norm Gray was
closest to the pin; Chet
Dombroski and Merle Smith won
high gross; Gene Stark and Vi
Leonard had the fewest putts;
Dale Anderson and Cathy Lannin
won the most putts competition;
Arlene Baker and Bob Smith won
a prize for the lowest score on a
surprise hole; and the teams of
Wally Mohrmann-Donna Jarvis
and Bill Wolfe-Maggie Murphy
tied for the highest score on a
surprise hole.
Bud McDowell, president of
the Men's Club, awarded prizes
and the trophies for the club's
most recent events after a fried
