Spot the band is giving a break to Shelton songbird Seairra A young singer fom Shelton re- cently unleashed a tw tunes with Spot the Dog when they performed for a crowd at the farmers' market in Olympia. Seairra Haskell was inspired to sing her heart out in July when she attended the American Idol Concert at the Tacoma Dome. Jor- dan Sparks, a contestant in the popular TV talent hunt, gave the audience a few encouraging words. "She said that if" you ever have a chance to sing and it's something you want to do, go fbr it," Haskell said. Seairra met Spot, a traveling band, at her grandfather's com- pany picnic at Alder Lake in the summer of last year. She asked the band if she could join them fbr a song and sang "Landslide," a number she'd heard sung by the Dixie Chicks when her morn, Dawn Shaver, took her to their concert in June 2006 as a present tbr her 13th birthday. "I was very nervous, but I wanted to impress my grandpa," she said. That went so well that she re- hearsed with the band three or four times and was ready to join them for a sit-down in Olympia when school let out for the sum- met. "She's been singing her whole life, and we've been trying to en- courage her," said Billie Plummer, her grandmother. "She's loved singing her whole liib, and she writes songs." After her performance in Olym- pia she had a return engagement with Spot the Dog at this years staging of the annual company picnic of KBA Associates. Her repertoire now includes "You're Beautiful" and "The Heart Will Go On," the theme song of the movie Titanic. Seairra will be attending Oakland Bay Junior High School. GREG ALDERETE of Spot the Dog accompanies young Seairra Haskell as she sings at a recent performance at the farmers' market in Olympia. She attends Oakland Bay Junior High.
