KALE * HEATHER Olsen, Yagle to wed next year Former Shelton resident Kristen Lee Olsen and James Yagle, both of Seattle, will exchange wed- ding vows in the spring of 2000. Kristen is the daughter of Rod and Carolyn Olsen of Shelton. She graduated from Shelton High School in 1991 and from the University of Washington in 1995 with a degree in political science. Kristen is the "wish manager" for Make A Wish Foundation in Seattle. Her fiancd is the son of Anne and Ray Yagle of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned a degree in naval ar- chitecture and marine engineering from the Uni- versity of Michigan. He is the project manager for Delta Marine in Seattle. 1 As the fall days dawn, it's hard to miss the new-each-morning creations of spiders. Yesterday we watched an orb spider spinning her web on the window outside the breakfast nook. The radiating network was in place and now she was circling the frame, connecting sticky fila- ments to complete the classic spi- derweb. Her elegant gold-and-brown striped legs served as connectors and calipers. The hind pair of legs reminded me of a harpist's fingers as she plucked the navigable radi- ating guywires, touching each in turn to her spinnaret to connect one more link in the web. I'm sure the spider was a "she," for a smaller, dessicated version of her brown-and-tan visage was stored in her previous web on the adjacent window pane. I was re- minded that spiders have some questionable habits including benedicticide. Nonetheless, she was beautiful and s'o was her web. I watched entranced as she made her rounds, about two minutes per round, 40 or more attachments per rotation. My mother would have freaked at the idea of watching a spider all through breakfast. So would my son. I recognize the symp- toms, but I get them from snakes, not spiders. The Indians say spiders carry stories in their stomachs. I stlp- pose in some ways you could say those thin lines playing out on the web, round and round, set to capture insects, were stories in their way. They caught me. I was so mes- merized I almost forgot to g() to work. I E, ni)..oF.Se00on I SepT. 23-24-1 20-50" OFF SpeaaLly MankeO ITeO5 Tho.-FXl.-SaT. 11 a.07.-5 p.m. 27-I75 • 32 W.
