KIDS MESSAGE
by Theresa Murray
theresa@masoncounty.com
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful
or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not
irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not
rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins .
out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hOpeful,
and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4—
7 NLT
I have always loved this chapter! It is the love chapter. Do you
know who this reminds me of?
If you said Jesus, you guessed right! And Jesus tells us, in
John 14:9, “..Anyone_who has seen Me has seen the Father! "
So God and Jesus are love! The Holy Spirit helps us to learn
how to love the way they do, because it is not easy to do on
our own sometimes! ‘
I like to hold these verses up as a mirror. Someone once said,
when you read this 'chapter, try putting your own name,
where it says love (it says charity in the King James Version).
I did that and WOW! Try it yourself!!
If I say “Theresa is patient and kind”— most of the time I am.
If I say “Theresa is not boastful or proud or rude, I cringe—
because, HONESTLY, sometimes I am. But, I can honestly say
“Theresa is not jealous." Maybe envious sometimes, but not
' jealous. I want to see everyone at their best!
I admit I am PRETTYgood about not demanding my own

Good News!
way, but I do get irritable at times. I like to SAY I keep no
record of being wronged but, when I forgive someone for
wronging me, then they wrong me again, I am the first to say
“I should have known! You did this before!” And, of course,
if I think about it, I can remember other times I have been
wronged. I TRY to forget them, and I’m pretty good about it
most of the time. I am really good about the forgiving part,
, and getting better at the forgetting part, but I have to look in
that mirror EVERY DAY to remind myself!
I do not rejoice about injustice, but I DO rejoice when truth
wins out.
If I say, “Theresa NEVER gives up, never loses faith, is always
hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. ” I can
smile because that is what others have seen in me, and they
say that those are the greatest gifts I have been blessed with.
Verse 8 says Love never fails. Prophecy, speaking in unknown
languages (or tongues), and special knowledge will someday
be useless, but love will last forever.
I like to think when we don’t need those things anymore,
when Jesus comes, He will take me with Him, and I will live
forever. '
Verses 9 and 10 explain that what we see now is partial and
incomplete—.— and even the gift of prophecy shows us only
part of the whole picture— but, when the time of perfection
comes, these partial things will be useless.
So, for now,- verse 12 mentions the mirror—how we see things
imperfectly, like puzzling reflections but, when Jesus comes
we will see with perfect, crystal clear vision! We will know
everything completely,‘just as God knows us completely“
Here is your challenge for the week! Read thisvwhole chapter,
then look in the mirror! Not the REAL mirror, but your
spiritual mirror. We might see different reflections, as different
challenges arise. But we can practice by saying we are patient
and kind, not jealous, or boastful or rude. We can say we
don’t always HAVE to have things our way, and we don’t need
to be irritable, or remember everything ever done wrong to us.
We can say we rejoice when truth and justice win out.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT so, when Jesus comes, we will
be perfect, and not lacking. '
The last verse says three things will last forever—faith, hope,
' and love— and the greatest of these is love. Choose to love!!
