A dance to be held on
October 4 in the Elks Club is the
first event of the season
planned by ShelToa Guild.
Shel-Toa Guild is a branch
of the Tacoma Orthopedic Asso-
ciation for Mary Bridge
Children's Hospital. '
The name of the group
signifies this. Shel-Toa was
originated in 1958 by Norma
Carlson due to a service
rendered for her son David
ance sc
when he was injured at the age
of three weeks. Because of her
gratitude Mrs. Carlson organ-
ized the guild in Shelton.
All the money received by
ShebToa goes to the care of
children in need and for
maintenance of the hospital.
Mary Bridge Children's Hos-
pital is a non-profit charitable
institution, specializing in the
medical care of children and
supported through the various
fund-raising activities of the
ule
k-_
Tacoma Orthopec]ic Association
and its many guilds in fifty
communities throughout South-
west Washington; through
bequests in wills, and through
gifts from generous citizens,
civic, fraternal and social or-
ganizations, memorials, com-
panies and corporations, trusts
and living trusts and private
foundations.
Shel-Toa is grateful to the
community for the support
received. Last year the guild
eI-Toa
held several fund-raising
events. The Wine-tasting and
Art Show held at the Green-
wood Inn raised $250. Our
annual rummage sale at the
PUD netted $140. The style
show held at the new Shelton
High School was the final event
and a total of $540 was earned.
After money received from
memorials and other benefits,
we were able to deliver to the
Tacoma Orthopedic Association
$1,100.
Guil
Thirty active members and
several charter members com-
prise Shel-Toa. The board of
officers is Nancy Trucksess,
president; Phyllis Ahlf, vice-
president; Peg Stock, secretary;
Karen Zeigler, treasurer;
Shirley Gray, gifts; Jenny
Pettyjohn, membership; Chloe
Scoles, memorials; Mary Pen-
hey, projects; publicity and
scrapbook, Vicki Conley; Chris
